Reviews of African Eagle Day Tours
We used African Eagle twice for day tours and had excellent experiences.
The first in Cape Town for the Cape peninsula tour. A great experience with a knowledgeable guide.
We did a half day Johannesburg and Soweto tour also. Our guide Pascal was very knowledgeable and taught us so much about Johannesburg. He listened to our interests and dug into them with us. Pascal is amazing! Ask for him.
African Overland Tours agent Tammy
recommended this company for day trips. An amazing time!
I was in Hermanus for a whale watching trip, a fantastic day where I had the opportunity to see 20 whales with Southern Right Charters and then enjoy some great food. Hermanus is another fantastic place in Cape Town. The work done by African Eagle is fantastic and I was very pleased with this combined tour.
We did the half day Cape Peninsula tour and it was awesome. We had Moses and Chris as our tour guides. They were spectacular. It is one of the best tours we have ever been on.
We did a half day wine tour and half day eco boat tour. In both cases we had an amazing time. The guides were knowledgeable and friendly. We had the opportunity to taste some amazing wine and cheese. When we were on the boat we spotted some whales about 300 meters away. While taking pictures of them one literally broke surface 15 feet off the starboard side (the right). Unfortunately, google doesnt let me upload video or you would see a close up for about 40 seconds of it at the surface then it drives and its tail breaks surface. Amazing. Even the guide was surprised by it coming so close. Go and have a good time.
I had the great pleasure to enjoy the full day Peninsula Point tour. I highly recommend it to anyone willing to view the scenic road surrounding Cape Town.
African Eagle Sightseeing
We had a great time!
While in Cape Town this week, we hired African Eagle for a four hour trip to visit the Winelands.
Not being familiar with the area, we relied on them to suggest a drive which would include wine tasting at two wineries and visits to both Stellenbosch and Franschhoek.
Raegan, our excellent driver and guide, listened to our requests, made some wise suggestions and off we drove for a most informative and enjoyable time at the wine farms and area.
In future, we would not hesitate to book with African Eagle again, requesting Raegan for his professionalism and good nature.
Thank you, Raegan, for making it a wonderful day!
Your friends from Canada🇨🇦
Cape Peninsula and Penguin colony tour was spectacular. It was really an amazing experience. Thank you.
Used African Eagle for two categories of transport. Airport (Cape Town to hotel, four times for one visit) and tours. The airport service is excellent.
We used African Eagle for three tours. The first was with Christian. - the peninsula tour. He spoke French better than English and was not very friendly. Nor did he seem well informed. He was more a driver than a tour guide. He did not stay with the group at any of the stops, preferring to go off on his own. One stop, with the option for a short cruise to see the seals (which none of the three couples on the tour wanted to do) was in a seedy place with nothing to really recommend. Regardless of the entire group's disinterest, he stayed there whereas we would have preferred longer with the penguins. Not sure I'd recommend this tour.
The city tour was so poorly done and is covered in a separate review, but I will recap here for consistency. The "tour guide," Maxwell was late to the meeting place (two other drivers were responsible for bringing us, and others who would be in the group, were on time) resulting in our having to wait by the side of the road. Maxwell seemed to be quite happy sharing his disrespect for women, and made us fairly uncomfortable with his (sexist at best, misogynistic at worst) remarks. The real problem arose when he insisted on leaving Table Mountain to the end of the tour instead of going there when the morning was clear of clouds. By the time we got to Table Mountain, the cloud coverage had obscured the view. We, along with others chose not to go to the top, instead we intended on visiting with others in the group over tea. Because Maxwell had been very clear about having another tour at 1 pm, we did ask him if he intended on bringing us back to our hotel (as per the agreement for the tour) and he said yes. However, when we reminded him that our hotel was at least thirty minutes away, he insisted we leave right then. While we were waiting for him to bring the van around (as per his direction) a young Italian couple approached us and asked if we were waiting for a shuttle. Before we could respond, Maxwell pulled up, hopped out of the van and asked them where they wanted to go. They told him the Bokamp area. He told them he'd give them a ride as he was going that way. We were not comfortable with strangers being invited into the van with us. Others in our group had left personal possessions on the van (after asking Maxwell more than once that it was ok, and safe to do so). The couple sat directly behind us where one of the other couples in our group had been sitting (they were at Table Mountain along with the remainder of our legitimate party). Maxwell dropped them off at the Bokamp area. He then proceeded to the previous pick up point and made a call to someone to come and "help him out." He got increasingly agitated when the other driver did not appear. We were easily twenty minutes into waiting now (and it was 12:45 pm, remember the previously stated 1:00 pm tour?) and Maxwell finally called the office and asked for a driver to come. A full 10 minutes later (with Maxwell continuing to become more and more agitated with waiting) the other driver showed up and we were told to exit the van and get into the other driver's car. We finally did make it back to our hotel, but cannot believe that the 1:00 pm tour that Maxwell claimed to have went off on time. Later, we were phoned and asked if we had, "taken anything that did not belong to us," from the van! It seems that a necklace that one of the other original couples had purchased had gone missing. Coincidentally, the young Italian hitchhikers had been sitting in the same seat at the couple with the now missing necklace. We reported our dissatisfaction with the entire experience to the person who had arranged the tour. That person was very understanding and reported it on to the office. We do not know the outcome, or if the missing necklace was ever recovered. Moral of this part of the review? Either don't do the city tour, or don't do any tour where Maxwell is the "guide."
Wow - (Marine) Eco Tour fantastic yet again!!
Have now done the “marine eco tour” (sometimes called the “eco tour”) many times. We stay locally and this is our go-to boat tour - the one you want to do time and time again! It’s like a “game drive of the ocean”. The guides (Amir and Francois) are both exceptional in their knowledge. The boat is small and private - very intimate and gives you excellent access to the guides expert advice. We have had spectacular viewings recently. Numerous dolphin pods, whales, penguins, star fish, seals and lots of birds. On top of these viewings there is the beautiful backdrop of table mountain, the Cape Town city skyline, signal hill, lion’s head and more. The tour management staff (Bolan and Kieran) are also so helpful in the booking process too. I can’t recommend this marine eco tour highly enough. We will continue to go back on more tours. Top tip: booking is essential, there are not many seats on this boat - so be sure to book to avoid disappointment. The company is very customer service oriented and it makes a welcome change!! Enjoy your tour.
Great tour of the Cape Peninsula with a knowledgable and friendly guide
This safari is not an authentic safari, more of it being a zoo type social media safari. It's more of a luxury safari. Which is fine, just not what I expected. The food is great, you are greeted to wine, there is a pool where you can lay out and there is a hotel basically to stay overnight on the grounds. The safari itself lacks the "real" nature feel because the animals are on a private reserve that allows all animals to roam freely, except the lions! They are caged off without a lot of space. While the other animals can roam wherever they please. This is more of a zoo than a safari.
Every time we visit Cape Town, we go on a day tour or two with African Eagle Day Tours. They are outstanding, excellent tour guides. I recommend them to everyone I know who is visiting South Africa.

We booked a South Africa tour, and our tour guides were provided by African Eagle. Unfortunately, for the first leg (Cape Town to Port Elizabeth), we had a very incompetent, unfriendly, and unkempt tour guide who completely ruined the trip for us and the rest of our group! He shared important information too late, didn't share it at all, or reluctantly, had poor time management, and wanted to omit highlights that were of interest to us. After our requests and insistence, he finally showed us the footpath to the penguin colony, for example...
For the second leg of the trip (Johannesburg to Durban), we had a fantastic tour guide who was very witty, engaging, friendly, and always had a nice saying.
Unfortunately, the second tour guide couldn't completely offset the overall positive impression, and we feel it's a shame to have spent so much money.
Excellent trip.
Everything went as planned.
The French-speaking guides were very punctual, attentive, and informative.
In short, everything was perfect.
Good afternoon, We spent two days visiting Cape Down to the Cape of Good Hope. James G. accompanied us from the moment we arrived. He was an excellent guide. He showed us the city fabulously, and the trip to the Cape was wonderful. We are very grateful for everything. Best regards, Marti and Maria (Barcelona)
Tailor-made tours, warm, precise, and welcoming guides. I definitely recommend them!
Great day, saw a lot with good information
