Having travelled extensively and with a few groups, I'm always concerned about the dynamic's of the group and the manner in which the tour leader will ensure that the group gels. From the moment I met the group (I was a late joiner) Bernie Williams ensured I was made to feel welcome and as they say, the rest was history. Bernie allowed the group to get on with their own thing even if he had a plan. Laughter and banter was the order of the day and war stories were told around the camp fire. If you're looking for a tour guide with no airs and graces, who knows his way around almost all 4x4s and can be trusted to ensure your trip is a happy one.

I did a 2 days extensive 4x4 driving course with Bernie before embarking on my 6 month trip through Africa in my Land Cruiser. Bernie really taught me the basics and went on with some practical training showing me how to be comfortable AND safe in extreme conditions. The icing on the cake was that Bernie is an amazing gentleman and a great company to have just to shoot the breeze and hear his Africa trip stories.

It's a real pleasure to tour with Bernie, I've done 4 tours with him now. He gives you information about the country and area where you are touring, like a live atlas, you can ask any question and he will answer you, you drive roads that others don't know about and see hidden places. Bernie is very helpful and will help you out with any problem, if you have problems with your vehicle he will make sure you get to the nearest town where they can repair your vehicle if he can't do it himself. He is also open to suggestions if you want to do or see something else. He meets you at the place where the tour starts or you can ride with him from JHB if you live nearby and he also brings you back to South Africa and makes sure you get across the border. He helps a lot on both sides of the border to pass through. There is always a positive spirit and atmosphere on the tour so I would recommend anyone to ride with him, if you are unhappy about something he can handle criticism and help you in a positive way and give the reason why he do a thing like that.
