Reviews of Cape Spice Emporium
Wonderful people, excellent selection. I stopped by to get my father-in-law a present from Cape Town. Asked a lady to help me find spices he couldn't buy in England. She went above and beyond to find a phenomenal selection.
It is by far the largest spice store....not shop, in SA. I am a foodie who is well traveled. Cape Spice Emporium offers an extensively wide variety of spices and condiments from across the globe. International teas, rice, utensils....you name it. The staff are knowledgeable about their products. It is a pity that they are limited in the Cape and beyond. They need to expand and as a retired hotelier, I believe that I can assist them in achieving this.
Thanks for always being so helpful when I getting spices for my son.. He loves the sauces and know that you're sauce is traveling the world... Absolutely a Gem of a place
Very large selection of incense. They pack their own grains, beans, spices. They have whole spice ingredients, powdered spices and flours. They also have a large variety of teas but not the not many of the herbal remedy teas.
Prices are quite reasonable. They also a good variety of dried fruit and dried nuts and seeds.
This place is a mixed menagerie of things, from spices to cookware. It's a bit messy, sort of like a souk got thrown together, but great prices and ingredients for all your curry essentials.
This is SUCH a cool store! The aromas that hit you as you walk in are divine.
Well-stocked shelves and a huge variety of spices, sauces, teas, rice, cookware and frozen items that will make any dish delicious. The staff are friendly and super helpful. The prices are very reasonable.
Apart from spices and many different herbs/rice/sauces/teas...they also have a HUGE selection of incense.
There is a parking area behind the store if on-street parking is a bit tricky.
Seriously - go check this place out!
Wide range of spices. Even the brands kept in Durban stores. If you're looking for spice from Durban well worth the visit
Wonderful medley of everything. More spacious since renovation but nuts and dates still need to be separated so that they don't taste like spices. I noticed that the prices of the rice has escalated alot over the past 3-4 months.
Well stocked with spice and traditional food items, at competitive prices. Really a very comprehensive range of products, and the owner is always there and willing to assist in any way. Basic supermarket items also, and I enjoy the copper cookware that really is quite beautiful (though not cheap). The widest range is rice you can imagine...Incense it every sort...nuts and specialised dried fruit. Really worth checking out.
Excellent shop, all the Indian spices under one roof. Competitive prices, very helpful staff. You name it they got it. Guarded customer parking.
I sent a family member to purchase the products needed. I received the correct products however the pack of spicy Ramen expiration date was earlier in the month of July already. Just check your dates on packaging if you are super fussy about that. I was was not too thrown by it.
All spices and so much more on offer. Worth a visit.
This shop has a fantastic selection of everything cooking you might need. Spices, dried legumes, rice & honey. You name it they have it. S worth going into the shop even if only for the wonderful aroma of spices
This is truly an amazing spice shop in Claremont. If you are looking for something specific you are almost sure to find it here. I have bought everything from red pepper corns to Lindt slabs for only R35 here. But and this is a huge but for me I actually dread my trips there. When visit spice shops I expect the heady aroma of spices (Atlas spices is a good example) but not here. The owners burn so much incense I find it thoroughly unpleasant. Everything smells so strongly of incense it makes your eyes water and in my case sneeze. Your clothes and mask reek of incense so I usually time my visit so I can go straight home and put them into the wash. Even the packaging carries the smell and need to be discarded. I avoid buying subtle spices such as cardamom and saffron here because they have been tainted by the sickly sweet smell of incense. 5 stars for variety but I have to dock two for the unpleasant levels of incense
Patronised only when I am in CT. Well stocked with the range one would expect from a medium largish spice store. However employing a qualified merchandiser might/will do miracles to the general appearance and layout of the floor plan.
Old/redundant stock should be donated in general. More visual labelling definitely is worth it's cost and keeps the staff attending to more important tasks rather than walking the customers showing them items unseen because of poor labelling.
It's a treasure trove of fancy rice, a huge selection of incense and every type of spice - the best 3 things I like is the natural coconut oil at a good price, natural sugar free toothpaste and tops is not paying for fancy packaging. Only problem can be that everything smells of incense - even the herbs. If you have a super sensitive nose.
Fantastic shop, filled with an incredible selection of incense and masala in particular. Smells amazing too. Looking forward to going back with more time. Just wish that everything was more clearly priced.
This place is really a little Gem even though what does concern me is that there are so many jam packed products that it makes you wonder how do they tend to each product to check whether its expired or not. That is about the only schlep about this little spice kingdom. It really is a chefs emporium. EVERYTHING you need under this little roof. They are continuously busy unpacking and restructuring a designated place for various products that has arrived. So they are always restocking. I have seen spice and cooking ingredients which I never knew existed and you will find a friendly gentlemen on the floor who is always willing to assist and guide you on what the uses are for various products. I promise you. This store is a MUST SEE !! and NO I do not know the owners and neither am I being paid to say this but this spice emporium makes you feel as if you want to make your bed in it. It is like a Candy shop for adults / cooks / chefs. I am almost sure it reigns the most well known chefs in the country due to the variety and quality of its products. The prices are extremely friendly. Covid protocols are adhered to and they only allow a certain amount of customers in, should it get too packed. Remember this store does not only sell spice and aromas. They have different kinds of rice, pastas, poppadoms, pittas, canned foods, rotis, jams ....everything...I kid you not...Please check it out. Its a little haven that I thought I could keep a secret but its too good not to tell anyone about. It is the kind of store that makes you dream of having money (and not much) to make a date and go spice hunting. Enjoy !
A go to place for all my Indian spices and more!
My stop just 2kms from home for candied ginger, ginger sweets, mebos & huge bags of fresh coriander. And they have free parking.👌🏼 If you need spices for your curry, this is the place in the Southern Suburbs.
I was looking for Sage to bulk up my 'Absolutely Fagulous Lavender Lights' - the Lady went into the Store Room & got me 2 100g Bags for R25 each. They have the most extensive range of Spices & Herbs at most affordable prices. Mary Rampf

Brilliant variety of stock.
Only issue is that my dried soy nuggets has a strong smell of insense. That also have a huge variety of those
Went looking for corn flakes for frying. The worker came with a packet and said its freshly packed. When asked for more ,he said it the last packet which told me it was an old packet lying in the store.
Fantastic selection of spices, and much more besides. If you need ingredients for your savoury kitchen, then you'll most likely find what you need at this shop.
Huge selection of everything food-related. A good spot for Indian spices, premixes etc. Also, lots of Asian spices and sauces. Highly recommended.
My go-to for spices, sauces and even teas. Friendly helpful staff. The place could do with a bit of tidy organization, but overall a great place.
