Reviews of Department of Home Affairs Grabouw
This was honestly one of the best experiences I have ever had at Home Affairs. The hour's drive from Cape Town was absolutely worth it.
I went in for my unabridged birth certificate, while my partner and a colleague came for their unabridged birth certificates and replacement passports. I was in and out within 1.5 hours, and my partner and his colleague were done in less than 3 hours, even after a trip to the nearby police station for an affidavit. Normally, at other Home Affairs offices, obtaining a police affidavit would mean having to restart the whole process on another day. Thankfully, this wasn't the case here.
Compared to the Home Affairs office in Vredenburg, which we visited a few months ago, today's visit was a breeze! The staff in Grabouw were efficient, friendly, and helpful. The process was streamlined as we filled out our own forms, which significantly sped up the queue. In contrast, at Vredenburg, there was only one person behind the counter filling out forms for each applicant, resulting in long waits. Additionally, Vredenburg lost all three of our unabridged birth certificate applications after we paid and queued for over six hours.
Home Affairs in Vredenburg and other parts of the country could learn a lot from the efficiency and customer service at Home Affairs in Grabouw.
Woooow, according to my experience there is no public facility to compare with the service my family & I had received in Grabouw Home Affairs.
Those guys are all working there, no jokes. We were there to apply for our son's ID but my wife & myself ended up applying for our new smart card IDs as well.
For all three of us it took less than an hour to complete everything.
I wish all other government employees can go there & learn something from all staff members working in that facility.
Big up guys... Well done 💯
My 5-star rating is not for the humble office or the long wait because it was so busy, but it was for the staff who are amazing!!! Friendly, patient, very quick and efficient and the hardest working group of people I have seen in a long time. When asked "When are you going for lunch?" One clerk said, "What's lunchtime?". They worked steadily, knew their job, didn't even have a cup of tea in the 4 hours I was there. They need a raise!!! They get the grateful thanks of our group for their great work and attitude.
The Department of Home Affairs Grabouw and especially the office Manager has restored my entire faith in the system after having several delays elsewhere. I was amazed at the friendliness, and great service to get things done and in record time. Thank you so much team!
Highly Recommend
Friendly and helpful. Very clear on what needed to be done.
Went to stellenbosch home affairs yesterday and waited from 8am to 3pm just to get told when i was the front that they cant help me.
Grabouw was full but from when i walked in till i was done it was 35 mins!!!! They are all hard working and definitely deserve a raise. Save yourself a lot of frustration and try Grabouw home affairs
FIVE STARS
THANK YOU
Grabouw Home Affairs was an absolute breeze!!! All the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and patient, even though our family pitched without an appointment on a Friday afternoon, right before closing time, and our youngest were terrified of the photo booth. They assisted with the utmost patience and accuracy to process our passport and ID applications in minutes. We are eternally grateful for this positive experience. If I could give 10 stars I would.
We came to Grabouw specifically to renew my passport at Home Affairs, as we have heard how efficient they are. They lived up to their reputation and delivered outstanding service. We were in and out in less than an hour, new passport and unabridged birth certificate for my son done in no time. Friendly staff kept us smiling. Sonia served me and she was terrific! Thanks Grabouw team. It was well worth the drive from Cape Town.
What a lovely experience! I have had horrible visits to Home Affairs in the past but this was not the case at Grabouw Home Affairs. I booked appointments for myself and my family and it was a quick and efficient visit. We were done within an hour. The staff are friendly and so helpful. I would definitively recommend this branch. Be sure to book an appointment.
I drove from Cape Town to Grabouw to apply for my new ID card and get my marriage certificate and it was worth it! Quick and easy! Everyone were efficient eager to help. Thank you!
Outstanding service. Meet + Greet gentleman deserves huge credit.
Fast.....multitasking = 5 stars...
Welll done to all of you in this branch.
You are making a difference!!
Just experienced incredible and professional service at this office. Having driven from Plumstead at 5:30am we made it just before 7am and we were No.6 in the queue. Office was open at 8am sharp and we were out by 8:35 for a passport application. Since we had done the online application, all that was needed was photos and biometrics. Staff were very professional and pleasant and ran a smooth operation in a tiny office. When we left, the queue was just 5 strong :)
Went a few days before Christmas. Queues were short had great conversations with the fellow waiters. Arrived at 6:45 and got served at 8:30. Check the load-shedding schedule first as their systems need to reboot once the power goes back on (takes15min) although they do have generators and can still operate. Took me 1 week to get my passport and 2 weeks for my ID. Great service but they don’t do name changes. Overall a great experience.
What a fantastic experience. My hubby and I travelled from Ottery at 6am and got there just after 7am. Was 17th and 18th in line and was done by 09h03. Paperless application and no photos needed. Fast, friendly and efficient staff. Was well worth the journey.
Well worth the scenic drive... Google Maps calculated it would take around an hour to make the 75km trek... Left home at 7am today, got there just as the doors opened.. I was about 20th in the queue... Took about 3hrs to get all my business done... Would absolutely do it again.
***Top Tip: use the dha.gov.za website to book an appointment... This saves you ou from any queuing... Just rock up at the agreed time... Quick in, quick out. I will definitely do this in future.***
Queues move steadily, staff is efficient and helpful. It's a really small office but they get the job done.
Verdict: Absolutely worth it and will definitely do it again in future.
One more thing... It's summer and it was quite sunny and hot today... If you don't have an appointment booked and going to do the queue thing, make sure you take a hat, sunscreen, water and even a foldup stool along. I would assume it would be super cold in winter...so keep that in mind too. There is little to no shelter offered to protect you from the elements.
Good luck.
Thanks DHA Grabouw Staff!!!
So impressed! Got there 7. 45, no appointment to renew passport, was out by 9. 22. Really great service
One of the most efficient departments of home affairs. Very organised and fast
Had a pleasant experience with new passport application at the Department of Home Affairs at Grabouw. Got there at 07h40 , the queue already had 25 people .The doors opened at 08h00. By 09h15 I entered the building , signed into the register, handed my old passport to the lady taking photos & fingerprints ,done my photo and fingerprints ,got a ticket number and had to wait until my number was called. My details was captured onto the system and last thing I had to do was pay . I was out of there at 09h40.They accept cash ,but they also have a card machine. Just remember, if your passport is still valid for 6 months or longer ,you going to pay R800, instead of the usual R400.( Tip: Wait until your passport expiry date has 5 and a half months or less on it before applying for your new passport) The staff was friendly, efficient and not rude at all. Get into the queue by 07h30 or earlier ,as it gets quite hot standing in the queue.
This Home Affairs is really well organised with comparatively short waiting times and very friendly staff. I arrived at 7:20, was served around 08:30 and out by 9:00. Big thanks to the staff members for doing an excellent job!
I had a very positive experience at the Grabouw Home Affairs. We arrived at 08h00, with a que of 18 people in front of us. I was done by 10h00. The staff were friendly and helpful. They assisted me with applying for a passport, ID and registering a marriage certificate. The staff also recommended collecting the passport and ID at a separate branch which offers a separate collection question, which the Grabouw branch did not.
My experience covered two days. I arrived at 09h00, was eighth in the queue, which didn't move as the systems were offline. After waiting for three hours it was clear that nothing would change, and I left. I tried again today, arrived at 09h15, was eighteenth in the queue which, thankfully, started to move, albeit smoothly.
After an hour and a half's wait I finally entered the office. Things changed, speedily, thereafter. The staff processed my passport application in a friendly and efficient manner. Kudos to them, they cannot be held responsible for systems that fail. Note that it is a cash only branch, so be prepared.
Wait about an hour to apply for an ID. Compared to 5 hours other places
Drove from Cape Town and would go there for everything that I ever need to do at Home Affairs. We arrived there at 7:30, was third in line and when they opened at 8:00 it was not even 5 minutes before we were let in. In and out with son's passport application and husband new ID card application within 15 min. Cannot recommend them enough. So incredibly efficient, friendly and no hassle at all.
Update: 1Sept very short Q in Grabouw this morning. 5 stars to the staff, they were very quick and friendly when doors opened.I was done within an hour.
Had a LONG wait in the sun for 3hours. Once inside it went quickly.
Take a pen, chair and sun hat with
Staff inside are all very friendly and helpful.
They need to accommodate moms with newborns and have a separate line for collections.
Reasonable waiting time, we were there at 8h45 to apply for an abridged and an unabridged marriage certificate. We were out of there by 10h30. Staff is not the friendliest, seems like they are doing you a favor. The office is relatively clean and once you are inside the process is quick. They do not take card payments... CASH ONLY. Had to drive to the shop to draw money once we were inside but they let us back in just to pay and we didn't have to wait again. For the fact that the waiting times are far less than any other DHA, it's worth the drive to Grabouw.
Fast, friendly and efficient service. Arrived early as we could not make a booking. Was second in line and when they opened at 8am we were in and done in 45min.
Arrived at 7:40 on a Friday in September and was out in 1 hour 10 mins after they opened. The service was really great. The staff were helpful. You take a number and proceed accordingly. I applied for a smart ID card and passport. They take digital photos on site so no need to bring ID pictures along.
I tried 2 home affairs offices near to Cape Town, waiting period more than 4 hours, drove to Grabouw sorted new ID and passport under 1 hour and drove back. Service here is the most efficient I have ever experienced. Worth the trip, and a pleasant experience. New passport was issued 5 days later.
We had a great experience. The Meeter greeter was very knowledgeable and he did 3 different jobs and he was the cashier at the end.
This guy needs to be cloned.
Everyone from security to other counter staff looked like they enjoy what they do.
Very well organised. Only three tellers but they work efficiently and the process is smooth once you get inside. Although they only open at 8:30, people start queuing from 5:30. We arrived 6am, got into office at 9:30, done by 10. Passports for all four family members ready within one week.
The best experience at a home affairs. Top service, top life!
A few interesting chats while waiting early in the que. Once staff arrived they provided chairs for the 1st 10 places. I was accompanying a family member who resides oversea who did not do their homework correctly, all she needed was biometrics and all that DHA Grabouw don't have is biometrics.
Arrived at 7 am and waited 5 hours in the queue. Did online application, so process inside took 15 minutes. Would really help bank bookings for biometric capture was actually working
Heard stories about the great service and was not disappointed. Arrived at 08:45 to register my son's birth and was done by 09:40. Rewarded myself with two pies from Peregrine for being so clever!
Tip: do check the loadshedding schedule as the office does not have a generator.
5 hours from arrival to leaving. Very annoying bis the fact that 1 person stand in the line then all the sudden the whole of Grabouw stands in front of you... Security does nothing about that. Some people just walk in and get helped without standing in the line.
Staff in general very helpful and friendly
This hands down is the best Home Affairs. The staff is friendly and efficient, the waiting period isn't bad and once you start moving it is a very quick process.
Efficient, friendly. A pleasure. Renewal of passport and replacement of id 40mins in and out. Only wait was an hour before they opened.
Never thought I’d ever give an Government Dep five stars in this day and age . Good experience, booked in advance was let in on time and all sorted within half and hour . Well done GRABOUW DHA
Compared to Somerset West this DHA offices staff are a breath of fresh air! Efficient, Helpful, kind and respectful of all who enter their office!
Had a very good experience there today. We were there by 6am, 2nd in the queue and out by 8.38. Only two people running the whole thing but doing a pretty good job.
Small branch but staff is very professional and efficient. Got there at 9 am and finished at noon
Someone needa to fix the location on google maps. Its wrong. Home affairs is further down the road, round the corner, left by the school then right, it's a small inconspiquous single story building.
Staff were awesome and got us sorted.
Now that they have a generator everything works as it should. The only issue is that the system goes offline at 8am sometimes but this take 30 minutes to get up and running again. Get there early.
Friendly staff. Well organized. Great experience.
They are strict but very efficient. I can highly recommend making the trip. 30mins in and out!
Amazing people working there may God bless them
Easy! Friendly staff. Arrived at 10:00. Took 30min to apply for Passport and ID.
The first time to apply for a passport it took about 2 hours When I collected the passport it took 40 minutes
Parking on site, no long queues and quick assistance from staff.
The office in Grabouw is super efficient and friendly staff. Thank you
Many Thanks Sonia & Ruchin!
Your service was excellent! My family was there today for me and children's passports. We walk out in less than 1 hour with passport applications for all of us and ID cards for me, my husband and eldest daughter. You really exceeded our expectations. Nicely done ✅
Excellent service!! The staff work effectively and quickly. We were a family of 4 who were turned away at Somerset West because they are too busy, they couldn't help us. Grabouw's office helped us quickly and kindly.
