Absolutely love coming here when don’t feel like cooking. Such an easy, casual spot to grab a quick burger. Love the ice cream at the end! Burgers are a little pricey but still amazing!

Really wanted this burger to better, especially at these sky high prices. The bread was super dense, not light and fluffy. My burger had no real flavour, felt flat. Is the patty seasoned? The garnish was perfect and patty perfectly cooked. Burn me to say, but not even the best burger in Stellenbosch.

Went here for lunch. Nice little spot. Decor is minimal but cool. Small, efficient menu which I enjoy. Had the De Vreije burger and chips. The chips are really good and made from real potatoes. The burger is simple and tasty with a quality patty which is either pink or well done. Overall vibe is definitely “less is more”. We got a voucher for a free ice cream with the meal which is a nice touch. Conclusion: the food is good but a tad overpriced, even though the quality is high. The simplicity and location is a plus. Will be back.

Walked in here as they opened to order a quick lunch. The menu only has a few items on, which I like. The lady behind the counter was friendly but could not accommodate my gluten intolerance. I understand that not all restaurants have gluten-free buns, but she said they don't serve their burgers without buns either. Then offered me onion rings, which lead me to believe she doesn't really understand dietary restrictions. Which left me with only chips to eat. I was taken back by how unwilling they were to accommodate me and even prepared to lose a sale. Still trying to figure out whether this relentless pursuit of branding is a good or bad thing. After this I heard the owner speak to her about our engagement but neither him nor her came to speak to me again or offer me a potential meal. My wife had a burger which she enjoyed a lot, however the "BBQ dusted" chips were rather average. My large portion of chips had a lot of very small over fried chips in too. All things considered, the food was good. But no fireworks. I expected more.

Burgers are decent , a little dry sometimes. Service was with an attitude, albeit fast. Prices are not exactly student friendly, wish they ran a special atleast one day a week. I know they lose a lot of potential turnover from this, unfortunately.

What a flippin gem?! Great burgers. Not just burgers that are like other burgers but cooked a little better or with nice onions, but just different and better. Service with a smile and friendliness. We also happened upon this spot on a perfect day, so sitting outside under the trees was most excellent.

One of the rare places where I would say that you don’t need to order fries with your burger because it’s that filling. Probably one of the best buns I’ve ever had. The restaurant is take out style with lots of seating options, beautifully decorated- simple yet stylish.

Popped in from Cape Town with my son who’s now at Stellies as I had heard SO much about the burger and was disappointed to say the least. The burger is huge, ingredients fresh, it’s well priced, great value for money but the bun completely disintegrated on all 3 of our burgers, so eating it and more importantly enjoying it as a burger was simply not possible as it literally fell apart into pieces. I don’t know if the bun was possibly not fresh, as it was a public holiday, but would definitely not eat again based on this. The bun needs to hold the burger together.

Burger was fine, but expensive. I do feel that the service was bad and they had a lot of rules... I'm not allowed to get a straw, you're not allowed this, you're not allowed that... They also did not get our order correct. Oh and the onion rings needed salt. Free ice cream is nice, but it was not good ice cream.

It's just a small place but has great food. The menu doesn't offer a lot of variety in regards to food, the burgers are really the reason you should go there. Preparation is fast and you get a coupon for a free ice cream after you order your food. The staff is friendly and they serve alcohol as well.

Ate there today. Best burgers I've ever eaten. Definitely the very best buns ever! But unfortunately there are also some things that definitely need attention seeing that Bertus Bason is the owner. He travels around SA and revamps other people's restaurants. The negative things he points out at others' restaurants are things one finds here. In one room with a long table for guests stands a skewed steel wool with stock. The handy soap holder in the bathroom is ready to fall off at any moment. You have to keep pressing and pressing to get just a tiny bit of soap on your hands. Seeing that you are eating that ABSOLUTELY STUNNING HAMBURGER with your hand, you would like to wash your hands afterwards. The bathroom door cannot close and while I was in the bathroom a man walked in. The toilet seat is broken. And no alcohol-free beer or wine, so if you don't drink alcohol, you drink soft drinks. But despite these few points I would advise any person to definitely go and eat there!!!
