The hidden gem The Hillside Tavern is paradise for good food, wine and chill ambiance lovers. The quality is constant and never ever disappoints. The Hillside is an absolute must for us, every time we visit SA. We highly recommed it !

Hillsidetavern staff made my parents 50th wedding anniversary a special occasion. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive. Always a cosy romantic environment and food to write home about at reasonable prices and ideal location.

For more than 30 years this hidden gem in Lynnwood plates wholesome meals. Gastronomical delights of note! The dishes are traditional and consistently satisfying. Real value for money. Be sure to book in advance because the combination of quality dishes and service makes this much loved restaurant a sell out week after week.

Food was impeccable. Best steak I've ever eaten! Service was quick for the most part- only thing I didn't like was that the waitress put her nose up at my boyfriends order

The food was not terrible, but lacked presentation, flair and heartiness - made one long for the likes of Spur (I know?!!?!?). The service was devoid of heart and soul. This, unfortunately, was a extremely mediocre and disappointing experience.

We enjoyed the food, however felt uncomfortable with senior staff. The trainee was super sweet, and tried his best. We did not enjoy the overpowering manner of the lady training a new staff member. In the end it actually spoiled our Sunday lunch for two.

Upon our visit to South africa, we came to Hillside Tavern. The food was lovely, and the young man tht served us was fantastic, unfortuanatly i dont remember your name ( had a mustache )you were awesome and made us feel welcome. Upon entry felt very stiff, we are a mixed race family and felt uncomfotable, by some of the staff and guests.....People loosen up, everyone should feel welcome, what or whoever you are.The rest i cant fault.

I have been visiting Hillside since 1990 as a student. With this last I once again was struck by the appreciation I have for this lovely tavern. Very little has changed but that (in this case) is a good thing. Wonderful food, snappy service and a cozy atmosphere. Recommended for anything from a pub lunch with the boss or dinner with friends. Go! You won't be disappointed.

The ambiance was great...the service and friendly staff wonderful. The food was tasty but overpriced for what was offered. It was the type of food I cook at home daily...not fine dining. All in all we enjoyed the evening....had a great table and waitress. Just the food was a let down and the price way too high fir what we were presented with.

If there was 1000 stars, they deserve each and every single one. You can pick anything off the menu , and it would be great. Wine selection limited (only 2 Pinotages) but carefully selected top South African wines. I am so glad you survived Covid

One of my old time favourites in Pretoria. But only go there for special occasions, and can remember nearly every visit in some detail. Today we had the Pork Belly and Lamb Shank, but it is actually a speciallity Steak House!

Food was nice, portion was a bit on the small side, but well prepared. If you eat appetizer together it will be enough. The place had a slight smell of smoke, but the service was very friendly.
