A. V.Great suites, with the table mountain view right up front makes the most of its splendor! Breakfast spread with live counters are a delight for any foodie. A little away from the hustle bustle of the waterfront for a peaceful stay in the city. Cavendish square right around makes shopping fun, but shops close down pretty soon in the evening so check timings. Indian restaurant right on premises offers some good choices for dining.
M. K.Rooms are good and very large compared to many modern hotels. Some elements Ike aircon position show it is a bit dated in style but we'll finished and professional.
Good breakfast buffet options.
There was an issue with hotels.com payment not reflecting at check-in which was frustrating, but they were pleasant and reffered the matter.
D. G.Odd because the hotel is 4 stars but the rooms are certainly not. Common areas are fine but rooms (and especially bathrooms) are more 1 star. Old, outdated and shabby.

R. G.The breakfast buffet was perfect, the a la carte dinner menu was divine but ohhh my the portions are quiet big (no complaints, I enjoyed every bit that I could handle). There is also buffet set up for dinner if you'd like to have something from there.
The staff are sooo kind and really good hosts.
M. M.In the last three months I have stayed at the Southern Sun Newlands more than I have been at home. The longer I stay here the better the service gets. The beds are so comfortable. The breakfast is the best buffet of healthy and feel good food. The staff are incredibly friendly and really take the time to ensure you are enjoying your stay. I feel part of the family at this point! It’s the little touches that you really appreciate and at the Southern Sun Newlands, there are plenty. The refreshments in the rooms, the great WiFi, the best beds, great desks in the rooms, stunning bathrooms. It just goes on. Sad to be flying home today. Thank you for the incredible hospitality Southern Sun Newlands. I have stayed in many hotels and none quite match this special place. Until we meet again!
R. F.Not really a fan of these smaller conference rooms. Never been inside the hotel section but the conference experience at this venue is a bit claustrophobic. Parking was closed on the underground section with no clear indication of where to go. Luckily most people know of the main front parking area.
A. C.We had a company event in the conference area, such a great experience, good food, and the lunch at the restaurant was just as amazing. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the tech side was well handled and we had no problems.
A. N.I loved it there with my family and the food was delicious and the room service was amazing but me and my brother loved the first floor because there was fusbol and it was nice and plus we made lots of friends there thank you
R. M.Rating could have been better except for the following:
1. The bathroom curtain doesn't help keep water from where it's not needed. Generally clean up after myself so was in quandary on what to do. Using clean towels to wipe water on the floor wasn't pleasing as it takes more water to clean the towels. Maybe time for a glass divider.
2. On last day I went out, had a visitor (son) who unfortunately had to wait by restaurant area. He was made to feel uncomfortable almost leaving around 9pm which I felt was risky & when I came back it was rather late (10pm) so he had to sleep over. In checking him in I felt some condescension from the person at front desk. With customer care background, I feel there's a training gap. Employees must treat all visitors alike, avoid negative body language given the fact that most visitors like myself don't know the hotel policy regarding having visitors. Other guests would best beware, having visitors might cause some discomfort & attracts a cost.
3. Maybe checks are needed around nature of bookings, my company had booked the accommodation. On second day I ordered dinner. I asked to pay but I was advised that the bill will be to the company. To my surprise on checking out 2 days later I am handed an outstanding invoice to pay for dinner. Maybe it was an oversight by an employee but on finding out I needed to settle being communicated this as soon as possible was better than wait when I'm on my way out.
On chatting to a colleague about the experience, they said I'm not the first one to have a bad experience. I'd give it another stay, the breakfast was good and the staff at restaurant are the reason I'd come back.

M. M.Oh my goodness. I Love this Hotel. Their services is excellent, the food, their staff members, everything is wonderful. The Chefs give themselves time to talk to people asking them whether they are enjoying the food or is there anything they want the Chefs to improve on. It is also situated in a beautiful place and 5minutes away from Cavendish Mall. Love, love, love it.
M. M.Excellent location but old bathrooms with not very good cleaning standards. Breakfast is ok. Generally, the least southern sun hotel I ever tried. Location is more than perfect.
S. S.Our first was night we were killing mosquitoes, the reception efficiently changed our room for the next night. The Breakfast staff were just the best, they actually bought Almond milk for my daughter. Big thank you to the Chefs, the first time I had bacon that was not overcooked.

Audio guys were available throughout the conference making sure everything went smoothly and optimising things throughout making sure sound and visuals are up to standard.

R. L.On 15th November our family met at the Cafè dining a-la-carte venue to celebrate my husband's 76th birthday.
11 of us settled down to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon. (about 1pm to 5pm) and even the three vegans were happy with their menu.
From the entrance, where the required Covid Protocols were firmly in place to the manager and very helpful staff who took our orders, I really felt at home.
There was an extensive range of options on the menu and the presentation of each dish was top-class. We had the whole area to ourselves, which made us all relax and enjoy the celebration.
Prices were very reasonable and the staff members were also a happy group of people.
I can recommend this hotel to anyone who is wanting to spoil a loved one with a very special outing. 🍒
F. H.Good hotel, cosy beds and nice staff, my favoured staff is Earnest, who works in breakfast area. After second day he knew my order and started to prepare my espresso doppio already when he saw me coming.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel over the Two Oceans Marathon weekend - 15th / 16th April 2023.
Outstanding and excellent service at all times - from a runners' breakfast (on both mornings) at 3am - to a no charge shuttle bus service running every hour on the hour between the hotel and UCT (the race finish venue) - to a welcome back to the hotel with iced fruit juices - to enabling a late checkout (12h00 - instead of the usual 10h00) on race day.

W. H.My first time here, for a work function. Can only comment on the conferencing facilities and food, both better than the usual fare. Staff seems to be very well trained, friendly and efficient. No complaints.

This is my umpteenth stay here it never disappoints...pro active and always attentive staff. Adjacent to hotel is Bihari curry house..always popular and arguably I think the best curry restaurant in Cape Town

Very friendly staff and they are extremely accomodating, even storing my luggage for 2 hours after I checked out while I was waiting for my transfer to the airport at no additional charge which allowed me to explore the area.

J. L.we stayed several nights in this hotel during our tour of South Africa and we were pleasantly surprised by our rooms and especially the restaurant. The breakfast is very good, a wide choice ranging from smoked salmon to pancakes, fresh fruit, cheeses, hot dishes.... in short, a more than generous breakfast. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. A very good hotel far from the center of course but quieter!
V.Probably Southern is a big group in South Africa, because its hotels are seen in many places. The hotel we stayed in should be a bit far from the city, considered a suburb. The hotel room can see the side of Table Mountain. The room facilities are average, almost four-star. Others are quite satisfactory, and there is nothing particularly exciting about it.
