Reviews of Lucky Bean Guesthouse
I highly recommend Lucky Bean Guesthouse! The accommodation is tastefully decorated, and the beautiful, clean pool is perfect for relaxation. The rooms are spacious and very inviting.
I especially want to highlight the friendly staff, who are always helpful and go out of their way to fulfill every request. Convey gave us great advise for restaurants and was super friendly.
Overall, it was a fantastic stay, and I look forward to returning!
Lucky Bean Guesthouse is what you need to relax after a long flight or an exhausting journey. Our room was quiet, clean and had everything we needed - bath, shower, safe, fridge, kettle and tea and coffee. There are European sockets in the rooms, so charging our phones was easy. There are only a few rooms in the property, and guests share a lovely swimming-pool with sunbeds and a dining room. Breakfast included fruit, cereal, yoghurt, toast, jam with tea and coffee and a variety of egg dishes made especially for us. The owner, Conway, was really friendly and helpful, he consulted us on the shopping, wine, local cafes and other things. It was such a pleasure to talk to him and discuss everything we needed.
The area of Melville is safe in comparison to downtown Johannesburg. It's green, quiet and has some very nice restaurants and cafes. Getting around by Uber is cheap and convenient. We spent 2 days on the property and enjoyed the peace and quiet of its garden. Thank you so much, Conway, for making us feel at home :)))·
The area of Johannesburg has electricity problems now and then, but there's a generator in the guestouse, and wifi was always available, as well as the lights.
What a great place to be. We spent some days with our Ischi Baka Ciao band at lucky bean. The host made us feel home the service prefect and the place is like an oasis to relax after some rock'n'roll gigs.
Was desperate seeking accommodation at the last minute, as I was booked in at a very shady part of Jozi. Googled like crazy and came upon the Lucky Bean Guesthouse, contacted the owner he was not in JHB at the time but said he would call me back in a few mins. I waited and less than 2mins later I had accommodation in a clean and safe environment. It was half the price of hotels but I can honestly say it was of the cleanest, safest and most homely places I have been to in a very long time. It's quiet and peaceful and actually had the best sleep in a very longtime. Next time I'm in Jhb I will definitely book there again. Room was off the garden... Nice and spacious, on suite bathroom and shower, TV, DStv, Aircon and a beautiful view of the garden, also has off street parking, pool with access to the main house. A cute little gem. Home away from home. Thank u Conway and Faye for the hospitality and bailing me out in my hour of need. I will definitely recommend you to my friends, family and colleagues.
Room large with all amenities plus provision for load shedding . Breakfast standard offering . Secure property in quieter part of Melville . Good value .
Amazing guesthouse, very hospitable owners and staff. We even got recommendations for sightseeing and help to store our bags, as we had a late flight.
Very nice
Fantastic hotel in a quiet little oasis. Excellent service and friendly staff, highly recommended.
Great guesthouse! Rooms we're also nice and so was the breakfast! :)
The House is beautiful, the service is really good. We enjoyed our stay.

The Guesthouse is pleasant, surrounded by greenery and with a small but lovely swimming pool. Clean and very well located in Melville, a quiet and safe neighborhood of Johannesburg. Excellent breakfast. Conway helped us find a great Italian guide and recommended and made reservations for great restaurants.
The Lucky Bean Guesthouse offers a warm welcome in a quiet and secure setting. The spacious, clean rooms add to the comfort, while the beautiful garden and swimming pool provide welcome relaxation. The great staff and delicious breakfast, especially the exceptional omelettes, helped make my stay memorable.
Wonderful, both for the welcome, the advice, the quality of service, the rooms and the house. The owner is very friendly. Go there without hesitation
The host is very committed and nice. You can also ask him about day trip plans.
Breakfast is taken directly in the kitchen. So you can watch the chefs preparing food straight away. 😊 Since dinner/lunch is offered directly at the property, you can find some restaurants three streets away. However, for safety reasons, it is recommended to be back before dark.
We spent our first days in South Africa at the Lucky Bean Guesthouse and felt very comfortable. The property is very quietly located in the Melville district, just a few hundred meters from the busy 7th Street with many bars and restaurants. A perfect place to explore the city. Conway was a very warm host and gave us good tips for Johannesburg and our onward journey to Swaziland. You should also definitely visit the restaurant on 7th Street that belongs to the guesthouse. We'd love to come back!!!
We used this guesthouse to start/end our tour in the east of South Africa.||The owner Conway, his daughter Faye and all the employees are kind-hearted people who run this great accommodation with enthusiasm. When we had problems with our rental car, Conway helped us very well.||We can fully recommend this accommodation!
This guesthouse is very pleasant: a house with a pretty garden, a small swimming pool in a very quiet area and the owners take great care of all their visitors (visit every morning to give advice). many rooms have their own small terrace.||||Large and varied breakfast, a little slow to prepare (even if you only eat toast, you won't be able to have breakfast in less than 30 minutes). No restaurant in the immediate vicinity of the guest house: you have to go around 500m to find a very lively street with many restaurants. The boss advises taking a taxi after dark to get there. We were able to prepare meals in the kitchen in the evening (you have to buy your own ingredients).||||A fridge provides drinks (for a fee), soft drinks, beers and wine.
Conway and his team made the start of our three-week trip to South Africa super pleasant. Two nights in the quiet, shady and spacious pool suite, a chilled, delicious breakfast, an impressive trip to SoWeTo with top guide Cecilia - it couldn't have been better. Great and highly recommended, top price-performance ratio.
Beautiful guesthouse in a great 'middle class' neighborhood. Room was very spacious with a fantastic large bed. Wonderful shower! Also a spacious terrace. Wifi has a very good range and fantastic speed, I have not often encountered that fast in hotels/guesthouses in the world.||Owners are very friendly and helpful, arrange tours, transfers and everything else you need. They also have their own restaurant a few streets away, a nice location and, above all, delicious food. ||An absolute must!
A short but very pleasant stay at the Lucky Bean where we were made very welcome. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Conway's advice was invaluable. The place is very pretty and very safe, as is the neighborhood. We couldn't have been better. Thank you so much
Very nice guesthouse with a beautiful garden in a neighborhood full of jacaranda trees. Very safe neighborhood with a number of nice places to eat within walking distance. Breakfast absolutely fine. Good explanation by owners about Jo-Burg. Also arranged a walking tour through Soweto through the owners. Absolutely recommended. To really understand and learn something about Africa you have to interact with the locals. The only thing to know in advance is that the walking tour is a 14km walk through Soweto, we had someone in our group with a knee problem and did not know in advance that it was a good distance to walk.
We stayed 2 nights with friends, excellent location in very quiet Melville.|Clean and tastefully furnished rooms, a small swimming pool and a lush, well-kept garden. The owner and his wife were very helpful and super kind and made us feel at home!!! WELL DONE!!!
Great location, quiet area, breakfast in the morning is very tasty. But damn! It took a lot of time to find a socket for the Euro plug. Everywhere there are awkward sockets for some thick plugs. We barely found a surge protector with normal sockets somewhere behind the cabinet.
Superb address in Johannesburg in a quiet area (Melville) and in a green, enclosed setting with a small swimming pool.||Conway, the owner is very friendly, very attentive and always available for his guests. He helped us organize our outings in the city.||I recommend Luckybean without hesitation.
A warm welcome, attractively decorated guesthouse. A great place to visit Johannesburg from here.
We only spent one night here in transit. A nice guesthouse with good service. We had a wonderful sleep and breakfast there. Good WiFi. It was nice that we could use the refrigerator and freezer in the kitchen.
Very nicely furnished rooms, small pool, great freshly prepared breakfast and above all very attentive and helpful staff. Great tips for a successful stay in Joburg are included.
Very pleasant, friendly welcome, well placed for visiting Johannesburg.

Super nice and helpful boss and great employees. Very clean and great breakfast.
