Reviews of Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden
Our visit to the Botanical Gardens in Stellenbosh was lovely! It is so peaceful there, you actually can't believe you're just next to the road. There is a restaurant in the centre of the garden, that will definitely be on my list for my next visit.
You can have a picnic on the lawn as well, perfect for a date🤗. The entrance cost was R15, and free for our little one. Highly recommend going if you want to escape a bit!
I just had the best beefburger with handcut fries. One of the best I've ever had and the beautiful garden the view and soft music playing while you eating. What an amazing place.
Probably a cliché to call this an urban oasis but it is. Once you entered the garden, you can hardly hear the outside noise and with the many shady corners, it is easy to understand why there are always people around. The garden has a diverse collection of plants and I love seeing the garden change with the seasons. It is very peaceful and someplace we regularly return to. Intrigued to see what the new flowerbeds at the Neethling street entrance will look like once completed.
Diverse and well maintained botanical gardens. Safe with a good atmosphere and friendly staff. Small R15 entrance fee. Worth a visit.
Entry is R15pp for non Stellenbosch varsity students. A lovely little garden. We walked here from our accommodation as everything is so close. The Bonsai garden was truly spectacular! Great place.
Lovely oasis on a hot autumn day.
Restaurant was busy but after a 10 minute stroll we came back and got a table under the shade of a big tree. Prices were very reasonable. The girls ordered scone, muffin and carrot cake. Boys had egg breakfast.
The garden has lots of nooks and crannies tucked away on windy pathways surrounded by luscious vegetation. With plenty of benches tucked under trees for a little quiet contemplation.
Variety of bonsai trees is amazing.
Excellent, very well maintained, excellent selection of plants,, trees, cactus, aquatic plants, bonsai and vegetables.
This is one of my favorites places.
Also the coffee and restaurant offers fresh salad, quality coffees and teas and even cakes.
Awesome place! Recommended.
Beautiful place for a quick and quiet walk around - very few staff and signage is a bit misleading but plenty to enjoy! The greenhouses are definitely worth looking at!
Intelligent layout and broad range of areas, from ferns to bonsai to lily pond to herbs and vegetables and many other sections. The cafe is fantastic and the chef is dedicated and globally knowledgeable.
This is one of my favorite places to go just to sit snd relax. The atmosphere is calming and the surroundings are beautiful. If you love nature then you must go visit
Stunning, lovely easy walking with my father in law who walks with a walker. Thank you for keeping the pathways open and manageable
A beautiful day out, really enjoyed all the different fauna. Bonsai exhibit is amazing
Beautiful botanical garden. You can discover lots of plants. Chilled atmosphere.
Calm, quiet, and beautiful plants to delight the soul. Appreciated the different biome glasshouses - so much to see packed into the available spaces. Well worth the very modest entrance fee.
Beautiful garden in a quiet surrounding with amazing plants and trees.
Little pit neglect especially the glasshouses but still some beautiful areas and plants. Nice restaurant under the trees
What a pleasant surprise! When entering from Van Riebeeck street, the gardens appear charming yet small ... but so many surprises await you at every turn! There is a lot to discover and enjoy (for only R15 per person entrance fee); the gardens are both a visual feast and wonderfully aromatic. The gift shop has an exquisite selection, and the freshly-baked scones with jam and (generous) cream are delicious at the restaurant that also serves up friendly smiles. Sadly, we ran out of time but will definitely return to this tranquil oasis that offers respite after the hustle and bustle of the 'dorp'.
Best Smash Burgers Ever. Will definitely come again👌
Beautiful and well maintained garden. A must visit.
Delightful and an unexpected treat. There are so many plant species to be seen here. I was particularly impressed by the huge number of carnivorous plants and bonsai. The restaurant is well run as well. This stopover was enjoyed by my entire family.
Absolutely amazing, very possibly the most interesting and diverse display of plant life in Southern Africa.
My favourite being the greenhouse for the bright and exotic displays, And the bonsai trees having years of love and work to maintain them, each is fascinating and ringed with history.
The very reasonable entrance fee provides hours of fascination as you can walk enthralled by nature's works of art more captivating than any museum.
The staff are friendly and passionate, and the place is excellently maintained and cared for.
Am absolute must see in Stellenbosch.
Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden is a relaxing respite from the bustle of town.
Thank you to the passionate staff-member (Bonakile?) for pointing the beautiful chameleons out to us :)
Stunning garden in the heart of Stellenbosch. Plenty to look at and experience!
Lovely botanical garden with a wide variety of plants to admire (The Californian Redwood is a must see). The garden is rather dense which makes up for the relatively small area
A must visit for the flora-fanatic. Enjoyed a great light lunch - quiche recommended! Enjoyed the serenity of the gardens and the plenty of species to see. A botanical feast!
Beautiful botanical gardens with exquisite plant life. Wheelchair friendly paths though not all. Affordable entrance fee of R15 and R10 for pensioners.
This place is a real find. Very affordable entrance fee and a lovely way to spend some time. Very peaceful and the restaurant is nice too :)
Not the biggest but still wonderful to take a walk through or stop at the cafe for some lunch!
Has a very neat selection of bonsai trees in the collection. Small entrance fee but well worth it. This place includes a nice little restaurant with nice coffee
This oasis in the heart of the bustling city center of Stellenbosch is an unexpected treat. The clever plantings shield you from some imposing buildings that surround the gardens. Its about an hours with of interesting diversion. This garden is very satisfying to view as it has diverse garden rooms. The little Zen inspired space showcasing spectacular Bonsai was my favourite.
Katjoepiering Restaurant in the Garden is the perfect place to bring your friends or family. The host, Neil, and his team are a delight and the food to die for. The backdrop of beautiful nature is all you need extra to make any visit an occassion.
Nice and very relaxing place to visit.
Very lovely. Only 45 to 50 minutes away from the Atlantic seaboard. Nice drive. They have a lovely Cafe on site.
Beautiful garden in a beautiful town
beautiful, so much too see and so many little pathways you can wander freely around. You can relax and absorb the beauty if nature
They have a bonsai garden which is a great addition to the garen as a whole and their bathrooms were suprisingly clean and efficient 👌
The botanical gardens so beautifull and Katjiepiering restaurant a real tip of icing on the cake excelent service and intresting flavours to taste will definately recomend will visit everytime i get a chance!!!
Quite gardens in the Centre of town. Students get in free with their student cards. Great little restaurant inside the gardens
Beautiful oasis in the middle of Stellenbosch. Definitely worth visiting the bonsai collection as well as the succulent houses.
Lovely gardens that are beautifully maintained. Worth a visit if you're in Stellenbosch
Excellent place for a walk, meet up with friends, or to just chill with your family. Heavily reccomended
What a gem in the middle of Stellenbosch. The price to go in R10 under a Dollar. The plants the views and just a good alround walk.
Gardens are amazing. The restaurant, Katjiepiering, is definitely a must, they have amazing food.
Beautiful & well kept Botanical Garden, wonderful afternoon spot for tea & scones.
I was there on personal matters.
The Staff were extremely helpful with information required in tracing a family member.
Beautiful Place with some stunning plants and trees❤
Lovely place. Well managed, but...Get a car gaurd. High risk area for breaking into vehicles
Very green and quiet - great place to read a book outside on a bench on a warm day!
A beautiful piece of nature in the centre of town and their food and service, phenomenal!
Such a great place right in the middle of Stellenbosch. Do check out the huge collection of bonsai trees.
Love the gardens, it is small to walk through and to see all
So peaceful and well maintained. Definitely worth the visit
Beautiful garden, friendly people and peaceful vibe.
What a wonderful experience to walk on the campus to God all the Glory for making this day possible 👏👏
Kind of hidden away in the center of town. Nice looking coffee shop also.
Beautiful place. Long waiting time for kitchen at the restaurant.
Great and interesting experience. Succulent collection was very intetesting
The best kept garden and tea room in the homelands.
Great place to relax and escape the books
Beautiful but very dry!
amazing space to just chill
Peaceful
Because I love nature🌿🌲🌸🌳🌺🌵
Awsome love it
Beautiful walk inside this botanical garden, I think you have to pay, I'm not sure my memory falters a bit, but in any case a nice experience.
Inside you will find many varieties of plants, bonsai and birds and also a small shop where you can buy seeds and books on South African botany.
Recommended for nature lovers and those who want to take a walk in a beautiful botanical garden.
Very well maintained and beautiful. We particularly liked the bonsai garden. For some greenhouses you must first pick up a key at the kiosk. The restaurant is beautifully nestled between trees and plants. Breakfast looked very tasty. Admission to the garden is under one euro.
Beautiful garden. Garden lovers can spend a whole day here.
We have visited the gardens many times in the past. We were there again yesterday at Katjiepiering restaurant. We had people from Gauteng with us. What an incredibly fantastic experience.
The garden is incredibly neat and well cultivated. What an enormous change from a few months ago.
The shop is well laid out a bit expensive but beautiful. I bought postcards to send to my children overseas. I forgot my wallet and the cards on the shelf. The lady who works there looked in my wallet and found my husband's number in it and called to say a tourist saw it and gave it in.
It was great and thanks again to her for her honesty and also to the unknown person who submitted it.

Beautifully landscaped and very well maintained botanical garden in the middle of Stellenbosch. Excellent bonsai collection, one of the best in South Africa (far better than Kirstenbosch!)....spacious greenhouses...beautiful water lily pond...cheap entry...friendly staff...highly recommended
The garden in Stellenbosch is beautiful despite the dry conditions. The greenhouse with exotic plants is a must see. Our time was too short to see everything, but we will definitely go again to see the rest of the garden. Parking is just a big problem.
Small, unpretentious botanical garden, very pleasant for a relaxing lunch in the cool of its shaded courtyard.
Beautifully kept!! Well done
Kept in good condition, good job
Beautiful botanical garden with a special area for Bonzai trees!
Absolutely beautiful. Crazy that I only ventured in twice in 7 years in Stellenbosch. 🌹💐🌸🌺🌷🌻🌼🪷🪻
Lovely greenery but a bit small for a botanical garden.
