Reviews of St George's Cathedral
I attended the WOMAD concerts honouring Desmond and Leah Tutu. Hubert Laws, Cape Town symphony orchestra on thurs. Friday PJ Powers, Ladysmih Black Mambazo were superb...Hilton Schilder and Shaheema Lackey, Francesa Biancoli etc. Sound was good except for Hubert Laws' flute got lost a bit...
Absolutely beautiful…. Fantastic..!!
Must see.!
Beautiful, stain glass windows, accessible, welcoming.
Beautiful place and we got to meet Father Michael.
Amazing part of history the giant cathedral is a masterpiece. The architecture is centuries old but the style stands test of time.Iconic figure to minister is Tata Desmond Tutu .
I grew up in this Cathedral. Baptised, confirmed, married here - and have buried family and worked here.... what can I say other than its my deepest home even as I've moved on.... The prayers of generations of beautiful people drip off the Table Mountain sandstone... It is a unique luminous place - a numinous place - deserving of your gentle embrace. Do visit it....
Such a beautiful building right next to the Company's gardens and Parliament of South Africa. A great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether you want to explore a beautiful interior and marvel at the architecture or perhaps you feel like lighting a candle for someone, make sure to visit. The Sunday services are open to the public. You will also find a great restaurant underneath in the Kript.
The walk through the park was insanely beautiful. The little squirrels are too bloody cute! The park is so clean and the staff are available to point you in the right direction. Love the feeding of the little animals
Wow! simply beautiful!
My third visit to Cape Town, I had to see the cathedral. It is absolutely amazing, it is a wonderful place filled with history. They are in need of donations for various things so take a few rands. It will really help them. I read that the operation costs are sitting at about R10000 per day!
The splendour of this Cathedral is what I can only imagine the Cathedrals and castles of Europe must be like!
The fact that this was built before the modern architectural advancements of the moder age completely blows my mind away!
There is the most interesting things to see and although I'm not Catholic I really did enjoy all the Catholic symbolism, sculpture and religious artifacts to be seen here.
It really is a splendour of a building!
St. Georges Cathedral is a beautiful, tall cathedral in downtown Cape Town. It has a rich history making it worth a quick visit. You can easily look at the beautiful architecture inside in a few minutes while reflecting on themes like forgiveness and reconciliation. In the back of the church, there's a labyrinth open to the public in the morning to early afternoon on certain days.
Went there for a church service with family.
Large church. Beautiful inside and outside.
9 Lessons of Christmas service at 5pm on Christmas Eve is such a special experience. The service is presented in various languages which change yearly and can be followed in the pamphlets in English or IXhosa. The sound of the Choir is angelic and the entire service leaves you feeling blessed.
This cathedral was famous for its anti-apartheid stance, and remains relevant today. We were married in this church, and our son was baptised here by our very own Nobel peace laureate, archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Friendly reception from a very helpful guide/caretaker(?). Booklets available for nominal fee that explains layout of cathedral and the scenes in the stained glass windows. One window, in the North Transept at 9m x 7m, is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere.
Most beautiful place ever...🙏🏾❤️🌻
Great informative educational with Judith Gordon
When u know the historical role of this church in keeping peace snd fighting segregation u can only feel in live with it.. PS: each sunday TUTU comes to pray with the people there..
Wonderful acoustics for a place of worship
If you're an Anglican and you're in CT you have to visit the Cathedral, the building is spectacular will huge walls, the echo inside will make you feel like you're in Heaven 😂😂😂
A beautiful cathedral in it's heyday. No it is poorly kept, surrounded by vagrants. Structure itself is beautiful but needs to be upgraded.
It is a landmark and it's a sight to behold. The peacefulness of the cathedral is awesome. It has a wonderful history.
What an awe inspiring place. It is a wonderful cathedral. Makes you think you are somewhere in Europe. A must see!
A beautiful Easter Sunday service. I had to leave early to collect a hire car.
Such a beautiful building, the architecture is massively impressive. It's like stepping into a different world.
It's been a while since i have been there but always a carming atmosphere
Very nice venue for a wedding and it accomodates quite a few people... and Covid-19 compliant
Cathedral of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa. Open to all during worship Services and during the day!!
Wonderful history and a beautiful place of peace and prayer in the city centre.
Place to worship the Lord. Very spacious and looked after very well.
Historic but "living" place of worship. Great choir and organ
Gorgeous cathedral in city Centre, right next to parliament. A must visit
Beautiful Cathedral with a proud history and still active in its message of inclusion.
We attended a Memorial Service for the 50 Christchurch massacred martyrs through an Inter-faith vigil.
Wonderful glass murals and atmosphere
Attended a beautiful Farewell and Thanksgiving Service for Rt Rev Garth Q Counsell.
Beautiful
lit a candle and have some peace and quiet away from the rumble in the city
Incredibly still, the services are real and hold the essence of the country.

Great cathedral in the center of Cape Town although a bit austere and not very well lit.
Catholic cathedral, built more than 170 years ago. A very beautiful building with a rich history. Unfortunately, there was no time to go inside.
Oldest cathedral (1848) in South Africa. Mother church of the Anglican Church.
We only visited from the outside, unfortunately.
