What a delightful experience! I had an almond croissant with a flat white coffee, and a biscoff cookie to take away. Superior quality & friendly service. Will definitely be back to try more, as there were so many options to choose from.

I Actually like this place but I did not enjoy their cheesecake, it was very dry and had an unimaginable amount of nuts in it which just made it more dry... I bought a cookie and Asked if it had nuts in it, was told it had no nuts in it but it turned out to have peanut butter in it. I enjoyed the cookie, it was really good but I think it's a bit worrying that I was told something did not contain nuts only to find that it had peanut butter in it soooo probably avoid of you have nut allergies but otherwise, really nice space and would go back for the cookies and their tea (liiiittle stingy with the honey though, I offered to pay for extra honey as we were given one small pot with about a tablespoon of honey for both of us and we had two orders of tea. Seems a bit unreasonable)

I’ve been following De Baba on Insta for ages and finally decided that today was the day I’d take a drive from the arse-end of Randburg into Melville! Shop is cute with bright colours and eclectic decor. I wanted to order the gochujang breakfast croissant because as soon as I saw that thing in my feed, I wanted to be fed! Unfortunately the waitress said they were still baking and would be another 90 minutes. I was there to work so I said cool, I’ll have a Biscoff cookie so long and wait for them fresh outta the oven. A bit over 90 minutes later, I asked if they were ready yet. The waitress (another one this time) told me no, the chef said they’d only be out in an hour. This was confusing as I’d just waited an hour and a half - I know the slogan is ‘we do it the long way round’ but dang, is it 90 minutes or 2.5 hours? By then my laptop battery was dying so I had to pack up and leave, hungry and disappointed honestly. Think comms between the kitchen and front staff could probably stand to be improved. Or at maybe communicate on your socials when certain products are ready by? This being said, I would like to come back to try something more than a cookie.

There is so much to love about De Baba. Best croissants in joburg, great bread, good coffee, and great vibes. Try all of thr pastries! Good mix of sweet and savory. The potato sourdough is excellent also. They also do a Welsh rarebit which may be the perfect dish!

My new BFF on the block for the most insane almond croissants and blondies and ... Yes. And ... Everything on the menu at De Baba is made on the premises by caring hands with the best ingredients. Real cream. Real butter. No premixes. Stone ground flour ... and time. It all comes together on your plate and makes the senses reel! Forget your diet. Forget counting calories. Just go there and enjoy! Melville is back on the map with this delightful eatery in its mids 🥰

The best friendly neighbourhood bakery/coffee shop/cafe! Everything they make is super delicious. Try the croissants with bacon and eggs - you won't regret it.
