Totally cool, ramshackle old barn right on the water. Watch the seagulls, watch the sunset, watch the lights twinkle across the bay. Fun & romantic & wonderful, & the service was excellent. From wine to seafood platter to dessert, it was all okay. At 10 euros total per person, what do you expect? The music ranged from okay (disco pop) to horrendous (Lewis Capaldi). Still, we'll happily return -- farther away from the speakers, maybe trying the fish & chips.

What an absolutely brilliant place! Lekker food, service and quirky decor. The food was delicious and I would highly recommend. R240 for a basket of mixed seafood - prawn, calamari, hake, chips, mussels and R95 for a fish burger. We visited in winter and they had a few customers. Thank you Sea Gypsy!

We were referred to Sea Gypsy from a local at Beach Club...he said the food is Great...We had breakfast and dinner on the same day...a gem with very friendly staff...food is very tasty and value for money for sure...is it 5 star?...No...Sea Gypsy Cafe is a local must...do not drive past because of the outside look...if you do you will miss out...enjoy

We had lunch here on Tuesday 3 November. Rustic down to earth venue. Service excellent. We had to try the best..hake and chips. Totally blown away with the tasty food. Location awesome, overlooking the bay with the seagull keeping us company just outside our window. A must visit if you want the real deal fish and chips.

The place is alright, fine on a sunny day. The service and the food wasn't that good though. The salad greek salad we ordered wasn't Greek at all and the fries were more like mashed potatoes. The food just wast good enough for what we paid. If there werent any other options around we would go back though, it wasn't all that bad. The atmosphere is alright. The overall experience was just ok. Also the seagals were really annoying. Stupid birds.

I loved this place. Theres a specific look they went for, old, rundown and 1920s feel of the coast and they kept it. It does give yu the feel tjat you are in transit. Serving were big and the food was great

We visit this restaurant every time that we are in garden route. Love this place! Best view. Delicious food. We always order the ocean basket, its fish, calamari and mushrooms. The calamari is different than previously. Much more chewing. Will definitely go again but will order something else.

What a place, delicious seafood, affordable, welcoming, and with a lot of history.

My wife and daughter had the baskets which they enjoyed very much. Great calamari, mussels, crumbed mushrooms and chips. Service was exceptional and our waitress very friendly. However my son-in-law's yellowtail was very dry, and the prawns I had was terrible. The prawns were very much undercooked, not cleaned properly, had an exceptionally pungent fishy taste, and the sauce they were cooked in lacked flavor. We've always loved the rustic look and feel of the place, but its gone from rustic to dilapidated. Most of the chairs were broken. The floorboards are loose and disintigrating, and the bathrooms need a LOT of work, and perhaps some deep cleaning. Sad to see such an iconic Mossel Bay gem in this state.

By far the best restaurant we had visited during our stay in Mosselbay. They are slightly pricey but its really worth it. We had the line fish, which was Yellow fin and it was prepared perfectly. The atmosphere was what we had hoped for, a rustic sailors vibe. Theres a smoking section as well.

Most beautiful setting right at the water. Best fish and chips we have eaten in a very long time. Superb. Drinks being milkshakes were the real thing. The best lime milkshake was the feedback from the wife. The Chocolate shake was also great. Service was prompt and professional. Food arrived in good time. Prices are also very reasonable. Most definetly one of my new favourites. The fish and calamari was so soft and tender and the portions were so big that we could have 2 meals from it. Emma was a superstar and the place has this real honkey tonk atmosphere. There are scribbles on every type of surface, amazing music playing and rain leaking through the roof - and none of the customers cared. Def a 10 star

The food is great, very tasty and also the prices are very reasonable. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, full seaview. Would highly recommend a visit. The only thing that I found disturbing with my last visit is that all the writing on the wall, furniture, etc. It has kind of given the place a dirty look. I get the idea of giving customers the opportunity to put their personal stamp on the place but I feel like it's been taken a bit too far. A suggestion would be to dedicate a single big wall for customers to sign on and keep the rest of the place neat and clean.

For a sea food restaurant, the food rates about a 3 out of 10. Very popular. But in my view, I would not recommend. Maybe a nice place to visit out of season. In season, it's best to avoid.

Awesome sea food restaurant! Plenty of menu options from seafood platters to meats, drinks and desserts. Right on the sea at the docks, in an enclosed patio with a smoking section and outdoors section. Many past customers have written their messages on the inside of the frame of the restaurant, giving it a homely feel. Staff very pleasant and accommodating. If you're looking for a lekker bite of fresh local seafood dinner go anywhere else! This place will satisfy cravings you didn't know you had

Well I don't think it's that often that staff lift the floor boards of their restaurant to retrieve your bank card! This happened tonight while trying to settle our Bill! Well done to an obliging staff! My sister asked for her fish to be heated and was amazed to see a completely fresh helping plated! What a guy....... I called everybody in mossel bay from 21:30 to 22:10 in the evening..... This is the only..... And I mean only person that was willing to help me with food and organized delivery to me.... I literally got off a boat.... Working all day and night.... Not even my own hotel (ocean view - ex Boland park) would help me..... Thank you so much
