Reviews of OPescador Restaurant Knysna
The Most Amazing Restaurant we have had during our Trip so far.
The Fish and the meat have been amazing and the service was outstanding.
We recommend the ostrich and the COB but everything else is also on point.
Just go there. It’ll be a good decision.
Immediately walking up to the restaurant, we were greeted by friendly and quick service. We ordered the Portuguese sirloin steak, lamb shank and prawn curry and it was absolutely delightful hence the 10/10. The lady owner herself came and had a conversation with us which I found was very heartwarming. Overall I highly recommend this lovely family owned restaurant with delicious food!
The staff and owner were all lovely, and there’s a gorgeous view overlooking the water and boats! The food was gorgeous and well presented, especially the brownies 🤯 Would definitely come again!!
Celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary here. A fitting restaurant to treat my special wife. Lorete and her Husband are awesome owner/hosts supported by Pamela an excellent waitress.
Food well presented and satisfying on the palate.
Will be back!
Well.... What a gem of a spot! The experience from beginning to end was pure enjoyment! A warm welcome from host Laudette, to the attentive and knowledgeable waitron Andile and of course the most enjoyable food ever! My hubby and I shared a starter of Portuguese style sardines, and he had a piri piri baby chicken (not such a baby!) and I had seated tuna! All well prepared and presented and my only regret is that I only have one stomach!!! They are well set up to deal with Covid with sanitizing at entrance as well as temperature monitoring, with every second table not available for seating, al table cloths removed and cutlery in paper bags for hygiene purposes.
We will be back for sure!
I had the Espetada and my wife the Ribeye and it was really juicy and well prepared. Excellent service and would highly recommend the chocolate mouse for dessert.
A very welcoming place with a wonderful owner.
The food is good and the view is excellent.
A must visit place!
It deserved every Rand to spend it, I loved canja soup and combo as well, it was a delicious dishes, I love to back again in one day.
It was a delightful experience dining at this restaurant. They could improve service by making more regular checks on their customers. Overall, it was a good experience
The host and staff were great! The food was amazing and it was the only place at the waterfront offering halaal food options.
Absolutely delightful, just popped in for a drink as we had already eaten, so tempted by the menu ordered food anyways.
I was in that area for a week, eating at different places every day. On a few occasions I ordered a steak and requested it to be done medium. The last steak of the week was at O Pescador and unlike every other restaurant I ate at, it was actually cooked to perfection. The service was great and super friendly. My hyper 18 month old daughter was a bit of a challenge so my wife and I had to take turns taking her to run outside the restaurant. Their staff interacted with her as well making my overall experience at this restaurant one of the best for this week. Keep up the great work team!
Delicious food good service too . View to die for. Had family reunion there . Was so impressed went back for lunch
Outstanding food, we tried sardines, langoustines, kingclip and gurnard. Food was amazing. Periperi sauce was a treat. This is the place if one want to enjoy Portuguese style food.
Nice views of the sunset. In a touristy part of town but the fresh catch of the day wasn’t bad.
An absolutely gorgeous meal. We both had fish - sardines to start. The sardines were beautifully moist and not overpowered by the peppers. The kingklip was brilliantly cooked - you could really taste the flavour of the fish. The cob was moist with a lovely flaky texture and crispy crust.
The desserts were delicious. The chocolate brownie was decadently rich, the cheesecake was light and creamy.
The staff were attentive and the owner/manager was extremely welcoming. The reason for the 4* for service was that our waiter didn't go through the cooking process of the fish or discuss the specials.
Thoroughly recommend this restaurant for a lovely meal with a warm ambience.
Family owned restaurant. Food was really of highest quality. Owners were great hosts. It is a must when you visit Knysna!
Wow! Wow! We were blown away with excellent service , then food and atmosphere! Owner run just beats everything! Laudette and son operate like crazy and ALL the staff and waitrons were dynamic! Well done guys! You get 25 out of 20!
Great service and food. The waiters are very nice.
Best prawns I have eaten in a long time. Great Portuguese menu and service. Thanks Lodete for making the evenings at your restaurant very special. Word of warning to book your dinner table way ahead as this restaurant is fully booked most evenings
The atmosphere was great with a great views too but the food was just okay… I’d still be keen to go try something else though
Staff were welcoming friendly staff could ask anything they willing to help.
Well trained for customer service
We were in town for the Hillclimb and we ended up eating here 3 nights in a row. Laudette, Manny and Nick run a superb restaurant. They are amazing hosts and the wait staff are some of the nicest people I've ever met in hospitality. The food was authentic and incredibly tasty. From a former restaurant owner, I have enormous respect for what they've achieved here. Long live O Pescador, we will be back soon.
The service was amazing, food was exceptional and the atmosphere was fantastic. Will go back soon. Thank you for the friendly service. 10/10 all round for me
Ate at the restaurant and enjoyed the great views from the patio. The service was top notch, very friendly and helpful. The oxtail was not quite as tender and as we have liked but ok. Also the Tuna was overcooked though well prepared with a nice olive relish.
Pro: the grilled sardines were really tasteful. I liked them very much
Contra:
The oysters were ok, did not have a proper taste. The ones which we know from France (we came from Germany) taste more like fresh seawater.
Service was kinda weird. We were asked several times from different waitresses if we enjoy our food.
My friend has finished his meal faster than me and then his plate was directly cleared away. This made me nervous sine I was still eating.
Finally it seemed to me that the African (colored) waitresses had the only task to bring some smaller food stuff and remove the dishes after eating while the white-colored waitresses were responsible for getting the orders and serving the proper meals. In the beginning when entering the restaurant, we were directly forwarded to the white waitress and he decided where to sit.
I definitely missed the equation here in this restaurant!
I cannot fully express how amazing this place is!!!
I first discovered I about 8 years ago and the one thing I had to do on my trip to Knysna was too get a prego roll with their secret sauce!
BE WARNED it I very hot, but unlike almost every other hot sauce this one has flavour.
Despite my desperate pleads and begging, I couldn't get the recipe 😭
But at least the sell bottles.
(Side note... if anyone knows how to work back from a sauce to find the recipe, let me know 😜)
The objective was to give my wife a "wow" oyster experience while we passed through Knysna. Result: Failed.
Google cited O'Pescador as the best. Didn't live up to this.
A plate of tiny poorly shucked crustaceans appeared. Shell chips evident.
Ambiance ambivalent.
A tiny offering of mayo appeared on our table. Unasked for. R 15!
Comman ... Knysna. You can do much better!
Definitely not # 1. Far from it!
Was so happy to discover this restaurant was still in town after 25 years of visiting Knysna. Best seafood ever and amazing staff
Super good food!! They have their own generator so load shedding is no problem here :-) wine, soda, amazing fresh tuna, shrimps and an okay chocolate mousse. R750 excl tips for a very good dinner!
One of the best dining restaurant experiences in Knysna I’ve had in recent years. Delicious fresh fish and lots of authentic Portuguese dishes on the menu. It feels clean and one feels comfortable there in the Covid times. There is a lovely little balcony with a beautiful view of the waterfront. Excellent and attentive service, seems owner run.
Very nice family restaurant. Friendly services and value for money. Food is very tasty.
Had the delicious calo verde soup, wonderful atmosphere staff are very attentive and helpful
Highly recommended eatery
wow one of the greatest meals I've had in Knysna and the freshest, best fish I've had here by far! Wonderful views of the waterfront and amazing staff, plus the sweetest owners. If you're going out for a meal, make sure to support this lovely local business!
Can recommend big plus. Table outside with nice yaughtharbourview. Starters with garlic bread and garlic shrimp. Very nice.
Mains were fresh catch cob and o so delicious fresh tuna with grilled vegies and baked potatoes. Home made cheese cake and lavazza coffee after. We more than enjoyed every bite. Well cooked to taste and ‘enough’. Very friendly and helpfull staff.
We’ll see if it works out again tomorrow 😉
Family run, lovely and bubbly by the way. Fantastic fish and steak foods, I came with family and had prego rolls for a quick bite to eat and couldn't believe how tender and nice they were. A proper steak prego so had to come back for dinner and definitely wasn't surprised. Highly recommend to come grab food here.
The steak was juicy and tender, perfectly cooked. The hake was so soft and melted in your mouth. The homemade peri peri sauce was a nice extra touch to a wonderful meal. If you are ever in Knysna, definitely check out this place
Wow, what a stunning restaurant, with friendly people and awesome food. Nicely situated in Knysna waterfront with beautiful views. We really enjoyed our dinner here and will definitely come back as soon as we can. The food was of outstanding quality and very tasty. You will see us again
Absolutely incredible food! The baby chicken was the best I have ever had. The flavour!! The best touch was the bowl of peri peri jus that came with the dish for dipping chicken and chips in..truly special. If you are in Knysna, do yourself a favour and visit this family owned and run gem! Stunning!!
The best meal i’ve had in a LONG time - prawns were pristine and service amazing. Our family had a great time! THANK YOU O Pescador :)
We had two fabulous meals here on our recent holiday. You have to try the grilled prawns with lemon or garlic butter sauce. My son is a vegetarian and loved the Vegetable Paella! The serice is quick and friendly. The ambiance wonderful.
Food is amazing, service is on point and the atmosphere is very comforting and homey.
Would recomend the garlic flat bread as starter and anything off the menu
Don’t miss this establishment, which is a little tucked away upstairs. I had the eisbein, which was delicious and my partner had the peri-peri chicken. Our server JP was very attentive. This is by no means only a Portuguese chicken restaurant. Five stars all the way.
Food was okay bit expensive for the portion size. Taste is average but it is fresh. Very helpful staff.
Best meal in Knysna, hands down. Absolute wonderful, wholesome, home cooked food. It’s run by an amazing family and it shows in the homey atmosphere and sheer quality of the food. Definitely a must go-to restaurant.
Love place and friendly services, but best of all good good
Ok but nothing special. Fresh fish and friendly staff. Very touristic. Owners in our opinion not really 100 % committed to serve best for guest.
Their food is so nice 👌 I celebrated my birthday there 👍
Excellent. We again enjoyed brilliant service. Food was amazing and well priced. Thank you to JP (Excellent waitron) and Mannie (chef) for making our visit so enjoyable.
What an amazing position. The view to the Bay was spectacular. We had the sun setting in front of us wit a warm and fabulous afternoon to add to our beautiful week away in Plettenberg Bay & Knysna.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, and wonderful service - Please keep it up!
I would recommend this restaurant, the food was great quality and wines list was well stocked. Owners and staff are very friendly and helpful, had a warm conversation with the owner, very approachable. Great place.
Lovely Venue, Delicious Food and Delightful Staff...By the way, the Creamy Muscle Starter is Scrumptious....
The Swordfish is excellent. Medium rare and cooked to perfection. Service is fast and efficient. Well worth a second visit.
Been a customer of theirs for more than 20 years. Love their food & love their appreciation us us giving excellent ratings. Well done to Ludette & Mannie & ecellent service .
Was disappointed with the quality of the seafood. Prawns were overcooked and octopus was too chewy. Service was friendly.
Phenomenal! Amazing food, the most welcome and friendly staff and manager, incredible service. Wish I could visit this place more often.
We had a wonderful dinner. The food was delicious and the wait staff friendly and curteous.
Extraordinary place!!! Very good service and great food.
Lovely place to dine, service food and atmosphere was good.
Their Kingklip was Devine, excellent service. Compliments to the chef and front staff. Will definitely visit again.
If you are in Knysna, this is a must dining experience!
Food was excellent and service is superb.
Service excellent
Food absolutely amazing
Had the best experience during loadshedding
You have to order ostyers and sardines 😊
Lovely food. Oldest family run portugese restaurant
We enjoyed our meal at this family-owned and run restaurant.
Amazing meal again last night and a great vibe.
A great restaurant with super tasty authentic food. Great, very friendly service. Nice view of the water and boats. Very cozy and stylishly furnished. Unfortunately we continued driving the next day... Otherwise we would have eaten there again. Highly recommended.
The restaurant is very delicious and deserves a rating of 5. All the items we ordered were delicious. My brother ordered the burger and said it was the most delicious burger he had ever tasted in his life. We ordered the combo, and the fish and shrimp were very delicious. We ordered the fish soup, which was warm and delicious. We ordered the steak with mushroom sauce, which was excellent. We asked for an additional sauce, which is garlic. It was very delicious. We thank the owner of the restaurant, her son, and her husband for the wonderful service. I wished I could try the entire menu.
Ate delicious oysters, kingklip and ostrich. The creme brulee was burnt, not tasty. Friendly staff. Unfortunately something went wrong and we got the dish 1 by 1. That did detract from the experience. View is beautiful.
The restaurant is located directly on the waterfront on the 2nd level. From here you have a beautiful view of the harbor and, if the weather permits, a wonderful sunset.
Booking a table might not be the worst idea.
The menu offers a lot, including Portuguese cuisine (the owner is probably Portuguese), in any case the food is delicious, even if my prawn curry was more of a soup, the taste was good. The fish recommendation from the service was perfect.
The service staff was very friendly, competent and attentive.
We liked it.
Very nice ambience in the waterfront with a view of the harbor, water and the play of colors of the sunset. Very good catch of the day fish - now swordfish - and deliciously prepared with a finely nuanced sauce, so that the taste of the fresh fish is preserved. Very friendly service. Everything is great and recommended!
We ordered the chef's mixed seafood dish, Portuguese soup, and fish soup, in addition to the grilled hake dish
Honestly, they have a special spicy sauce for seafood, which is another story
They have outdoor seating on the porch overlooking the boat marina as well as indoor seating
The service is good and polite
The reception was warm and wonderful
And the prices are acceptable
I thank Mrs. Lodisi for her polite treatment 👌
The service is excellent and the food is delicious, especially the Wagyu steak, which tastes beyond imagination, very, very, very delicious 👍🏻
Our waiter Andy was extremely friendly and helpful - I have to say my best service experience of the entire three week trip!
The oysters were delicious!
