Reviews of Lucy Ethiopian Restaurant
Cool ambience, really wonderful service and the food was pretty good as well. The injera was on the drier side and the drinks were ok but this is still one of the better Ethiopian places in the city. Certainly worth a visit.
Great service and very special kind of food and eating. Definitly something to try. Had a great experience even though we were already a bit late, they were very patient.
The experience was lovely. The staff were kind an patient with us and the coffee ceremony was good fun. The food was good and decor was authentic. A very different different dining experience.
Loved this restaurant's decor! A must visit when you are in the city!
Delicious food, such friendly staff. We felt very spoilt to discover this venue. Brendon’s suggestions were awesome.
Really delicious, authentic Ethiopian food! Wonderful, attentive service that walks first time visitors through the experience of eating Ethiopian, then delivers on every expectation. We had a large group and were very easily accommodated, and couldn’t help but fall in love with every dish on the combo platter (I always expect to not enjoy at least one of the dishes, but not here!). We were so impressed with the overall restaurant we felt we had to leave a review. Will definitely come back when we return to Cape Town!
Absolutely loved this place. The staff were wonderful and the food was even better. The whole experience was one of the highlights of my time in Cape Town. We went on Saturday night and would have went again on Sunday but they don’t open sundays. Best to call early in the day to book a table as they are usually pretty busy. Don’t come to Cape Town and not eat here.

The restaurant is well decorated with Ethiopian culture, so is the dining and serving of food as well as the music. The staff are just friendly. Before serving they bring a aluminium jug of warm water to wash your hands before eating. After eating there are warm wet towels to wipe your hands.
Food is served the traditional way of a shared plate. We selected the combo and used a 2 for 1 entertainer deal. There is a huge savoury pancake made from fermented rice and teff flour with a choice of two curries which the waiter poured over the injera. We were served additional injera bread too.
We opted for the rice injera as it came complimentary with the curries. If you want the traditional teff injera you would pay additional. The food was eaten with the hands which is the traditional way very similar to Indian.
The menu clearly states all vegetarian meals are fully vegan. There are over 7 curries with over 5 side dishes.
The experience was lovely and a must to have. I always find restuarants give small portions, this was not at all an issue here as the portions are quite filling. A combo for two has stuffed us three!
I have eaten at a number of Ethiopian restaurants. This has been the best so far with a more cultural experience. I however would have prefered the platter option with 5 curries which is what I'm more familiar with, however is only offered on the lunch menu
One of the most amazing Ethiopian restaurants I have been to anywhere in the world. The food is delicious and an unmissable choice for anyone who is vegetarian or vegan!
The dish we order was super delicious with vegetarian side dishes. Richman was super helpful. I highly recommend to eat here.
An awesome experience. So friendly and the food was delicious. I can’t rate this place highly enough!
It was great. The food out of this world. The service fantastic. Can't wait to go again.
We had a very very delicious mix plate in an absolut comfortable ambience. Very authentic. Definitely a recommendation.
Great service and good food. Really enjoyed the more spicy items on the menu.
Very interesting restaurant!

Amazing food and service. Great hideaway on the craziness of Long Street.
Something different - the platter is a winner

Great vibe
Great place
DELICIOUS CULTURAL FOOD
The restaurant also has seating on the first floor, which has a good view of Log Street. The food is served in large, round enamel trays on typical bread. The individual dishes are prepared using the bread by hand. We had a menu with four components. Some dishes are slightly spicy; If you like it spicier, you can also add more seasoning. I found the lamb a bit tough. On the other hand, the butternut squash was wonderfully prepared and seasoned. Excellent tartare with spinach. Just a standard selection of beers. Deductions for the pushy service, who wanted to take the order too quickly for our taste. After we had expressed our wishes, the menu was explained again.
We actually wanted to go to a cafe to “just” drink coffee. So you came by here pretty much by chance. It was a new and great experience for us!
We ended up in the restaurant by chance. Then we wanted to try Ethiopian food. The extremely friendly waiter gave us very good advice and explained everything about the menu.
You eat with your fingers. It was tasty and we spent a lovely evening there.
