Reviews of La Perla Restaurant Cape Town
A beautiful lunch with our 85 year old mother. She enjoyed the prawns and I had the Crayfish Thermidore which was excellent. The toilets being downstairs was a challenge for her using a rollator and the entrance stairs and to get to the seating on the terrace. Perhaps consider a more wheelchair-friendly facility. Otherwise we loved it!
Lovely setting, food not bad, but above average prices for what you get? Our waitron was very good & made our visit enjoyable. My food was bit cold from the start & was send back to get warmed up after eating a 3rd of it. When they brought it back to me with a new full portion & I must say I was highly impressed! There home baked bread is an absolute must try. It had just come out the oven!
A lovely visit to a hyped CT Italian that didn't fail to disappoint. Food was amazing, service attentive and adaptive to our needs. A great Friday night dinner and would go back again readily
We originally wanted to go to Grand Pavilion, but they were booked for a shoots, so we walked to the nearest place with sea views. Arrived to a half full La Perla to enjoy a meal and some sundowners. The service wasn’t great - the waitress took a while to take our drinks order and forgot to give us food menus. The menus were provided on 2 stapled sheets of loose paper (no menu holder or folder), so when the wind blew, the menus flew. I would say the drinks were delicious, but the surprising R125 price for each left a bitter taste. My friend had a fish and calamari dish with chips. I had a beef ravioli. The grilled fish was succulent and pretty good. The calamari was bland. You can get better at Ocean Basket. The chips looked as if the raw potatoes were left exposed to the air and oxidized/browned before they managed to hit the fryer. Not crispy brown, but old brown. As for my ravioli, ragu is supposed to be robust with flavour. The sauce was the most bland I’ve ever had accompany a pasta dish. Also zero salt. Even the Parmesan/grana padano shavings were as dry and crispy as though it was grated in the morning and left to sit out uncovered. And then the overhead concrete in the outdoor seating area - shocker. The metal support rods are exposed where the concrete used to be. I did have reservations about going to La Perla after having a not so great experience about a decade ago. I’d hoped things would have improved by now, but I guess not. Such a pity, as it’s a prime location.
Wonderful and classical example of an Italian restaurant serving authentic and simple Italian food. Food is tasty - I would definitely recommend the butternut ravioli or the spinach caneloni. The portions are fairly generous too.
The service of efficient, professional but not overly friendly. Well located overlooking the beachfront too. Do note, the place gets busy so be sure to make a reservation especially for dinner.
Absolutely love this grande olde dame of Sea Point. It has been going for years but have only just been and absolutely love it.
Amazing sunset views on deck outside or inside for something smarter and fireplace for the colder nights and also a bar inside.
Gets quite busy so evenings bookings recommended but also great to just pop in for a casual drink or something light to eat. Views are brilliant overlooking the famous promenade and great spot to have few sundowners, business meetup or just take in the view. We popped a bottle od rosé and had some carpaccio which was delicious.
Service is either great or on slow side but doesn't detract from the overall atmosphere and vibe.
Wonderful sunset view from the patio then moved inside for a delicious dinner with a friend. The atmosphere inside was beautiful and the staff incredibly attentive. I had the distinctive fish soup and the sole with lime and chilli. Both were delicious. They also tested my friends real when it was equally good. My wife had pasta and said it was delicious.
I love having sunset drinks here, great view of the sun setting over the ocean, and a great spot to look at the people walking along the promenade. La Perla is an old faithful favourite of mine, always worth a visit on my Cape Town trips.
Warm, cosy and yummy food, with a view of the Seapoint seaside. A classic in the area and a good summer dinner out.
Tasty Italian style food.
Great views right in the Cape town promanade. Beautiful setting for a drink at sundown. The service was great but the food was lacking. Very expensive for average quality.
I would be back for drinks but skip the food.
Atmosphere, location and scenery was amazing. Food was fantastic . Enjoyed our meal. Service not good unfortunately. One waiter spinning on the deck, I don't think they planned for a busy night. Often had to remind him about stuff, forgot my Tabasco sauce, took a while to attend to us. It wasn't the waiters fault, he was lovely. He did however state that the owner takes 35% of their tips. I was shocked. Definitely worth the visit though
Beautiful location, friendly service, pricey menu but nice atmosphere, good food and presentation just a little too oily on the broccoli.
Gorgeous dishes and super service. An impromptu decision that we are so glad we made
Easily one of my favourite dining experiences jn Cape Town yet. Stellar service, the best food and beautiful views with great drinks. Definitely coming back.
Overall an average experience. The food generally tastes bland and overall was not blown away. Mostly mild/tame favors that keep a dish together. Over the years, I have tried several starters and mains and the prices are a bit expensive although this is expected when dealing with restaurants in the Atlantic Seaboard.
The cocktails are quirky and and generous.
Service is always top notch, from the host to the waiters and bar staff. Would recommend this for more a cocktail/sundowner vibe than a foodie experience. Toilets are creative and well maintained.
This restaurant offers great food and friendly efficient service. It has a great view on the ocean and it is a cut or two above the average restaurant.
Absolutely stunning experience...food outstanding...service outstanding staff so friendly and efficient. Location & setting perfect highly recommended
Nice location & nice set up.
Food is ok not amazing but good.
Personnel is kind and attentive.
Overall good one.
This place used to be excellent however service recently has been very poor the past few times I've visited. Rude Maître D, long waiting time to get even menus, food not available and not communicated until after order has been sent to kitchen, warm drinks, certain wines not available. Food is still excellent but service needs to be improved during the peak season before returning.
Good location. Nice atmosphere especially sitting outside on the terrace and overlooking the promenade.
Always average service. Waiters not always friendly.. Food average too, pricey like most of CTN
The service was terribly slow - you could go 30mins without a waiter checking on you or topping up your bubbly. the location is great.
Great views, great service. Some dishes are a bit out-dated but still delicious. A perfect summer spot.
Great view of the sunset. The ambience is amazing. A wide range of drinks and wines as well as a food menu to have a lunch with either friends or work acquaintances.
We went for a Sunday lunch a few weeks ago. It was a little cold and rainy and the bar area where we were sitting started leaking. But the staff were awesome and did everything to make us comfortable. Our starters and mains were yummy but so disappointed in the tiramisu. Definitely won't order that again. The almond tart was a hit. All in all, a lovely day out.
Great view, delish food, attentive service.... But get rid of those bins, or replace with more aesthetic ones
This was a wonderful restaurant - ice cold beers, fabulous food, great service and location.
Parking was a bit of an issue but once we found a spot it was all worthwhile.
We went in to have a cocktail and stayed for dinner. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The wine list is extensive and caters for all budgets and tastes. The food was delicious.
Great staff, amazing food and an absolutely stunning atmosphere.
Fantastic restaurant in Cape Town over looking the sea. A must visit x
Elegant, understated, perfect food and service, and then still going several extra miles when they found our it was mom's birthday. I am so satisfied and impressed!
Lovely view and ambiance however food not as good. Had sole and calamari but both were over cooked leaving them both rubbery. Husband ordered a medium fillet which was definitely rare.
Top fine dining restaurant in Sea Point.
Very popular with both local and international tourists.
An old favourite... La Perla is an institution that has been here for yonks. Old School service in a stunning location.
Food was really amazing, and they easily accommodated two guests fish allergies, with no fuss.
we'll be back again!
Friendly staff ❤️💕 and excellent guest service
We were walk inns and were offered a table outside ( that was later replaced by table inside)
Food lovely, service excellent! Enjoyed our unexpected good dinner
This is a Classic example of Sustainability, first time I went there with my parents 55 years ago taken my kids and grandchildren there the wooden chairs inside are still same as 55 years ago cushions have changed but atmosphere food location is a must in Seapoint
It's Pricey but always great outing
Very nice place to have a drink and / or dinner
Chief is super nice, atmosphere is cool, food and cocktails are good
Maybe a bit expensive
Fantastic outside seating area, great service and beautiful views. If you book, make sure.to get a seat outside if available. I had the aubergine bake (which was one of the specials of the day) and I found it incredibly delicious. It was a beautiful Friday afternoon lunch. We will be back.
Wowowowowowow!!!! The location, the wine, the staff, the atmosphere - all is prime. But what sets this experience up for five stars is by far the food😍😍😍 i am at a loss for words. What an exquisite experience! Truly remarkable.
Highly recommend the La Pearla Seafoor Linguine dish! Big enough for 2, there is absolutely nothing to improve upon.
If you are in the process of picking between restaurants- CHOOSE THIS ONE! 10/10 highly recommend!
Booked a table for 9 on a Thursday night. We arrived during loadshedding but they could accommodate us in a cozy atmosphere. Our waiter gets 10/10 for personality and knowledge of the menu. He must be as old as the establishment itself. The Sav Blanc menu was fantastic and we had great choices of wine to choose from. We ordered a house salad for the table which was humongous and we couldn't finish that. Not one person was disappointed in their choice of dish. I shared a spaghetti al vongole and even that portion was huge by South African standards. I would recommend LA Perla based on their scrumptious food, great white wine menu and big portion sizes!
La Perla is consistent in both service & quality of food. The atmosphere is always great as it offers both indoor seating and outside seating. A great go to restaurant as you know you will not be disappointed. Love this restaurant.
While the setting was beautiful and food tasty, we were disappointed specifically by the very overpriced foods.
For example, R140 for a Caesar Salad which is simply lettuce, dressing, parmesan and a few croutons. The service was very slow, too.
Calamari with lime and coriander very delicious, but again the small portion did not satisfy the cost.
Overall, the quality was good enough but the cost of the light lunch was unrealistically overpriced.
I like the view from the restaurant. the services are fast and amazing. The only problem is parking, if you go at weekend or public holiday make sure you arrive before rush hour.
The views are breathtaking, the food is also excellent. The service is above above average
Great salad. Not familiar with the wines, so I ordered beer. Kingklip fish not good. Nicholas gave excellent service. Nice decor, ambience and location. Toilets are the best by far of any restaurant in Cape Town. Usually the food is good.
This was our first time visiting and we enjoyed service offered by Mvuselelo Frank who was not even our waiter 😊 we moved tables abit just to get comfortable, once we settled he continued checking on us until he had to leave as his shift was over. The ambience of the place and location was spectacular. La Perla, you will see us again. We thoroughly enjoyed the Hugo cocktail 🍹and your complimentary baked bread 🍞is to die for. Thank you 😊
Good old fashioned, very high quality Italian food with highly experienced waiting staff and in a prime position with ocean views. Great value, with a mixed clientele, many of whom return frequently. The ravioli was especially good.
Not THE most memorable occasion. They put us outside which we requested but our table for two with a high chair for my grandson was too squashed next to a table of 4 pax. The service was very slow. The food was good. Two hours later we left after keeping an almost two year old toddler amused.
Nice setting, but a bit pricey for the food we got. Portions were small and calamari was a little sandy. But dont let the food dissuade you, the view and atmosphere is lovely enough to make up for it.
Such a relaxing location, right on the beach front with the ocean breeze complimenting the delicious seafood that is served! Seafood linguini is a must! Full of flavors and a good portion. Highly recommended!
Quality food, good and friendly service, great vibe. Even pet friendly if you sit outside. Outside is just as awesome under trees and lights. Absolutely loved the total package.
Leafy lookout onto the passing parade of Seapoint promenade, the setting of this landmark restaurant is as superior as the food. My sirloin (pepper sauce) was delicious, and linguine alle vongole of my partner repotedly as just good. Don't miss it.
Revisited a year later. Sirloin not up to previous standard (sinews), partner's fish (Kingclip) the best she's ever had. Waiters somewhat familiar. Drop a star, but will go again.
Very good food and lovely atmosphere. Service is good too. A little expensive but worth it.
It’s A Chilled Place Nice Food& Staff 🙌🏻 Would definitely Recommend it For Anyone To Go For it.
Thinking Of Going Nextweekend Again I Don’t Think I’ll d get Enough of That Place ❤️
Not too much has changed at La Perla since I went there as a teenager 50 years ago. The views are stunning, service is friendly and efficient but food is very basic, overpriced and bland.
Their service is amazing. The food is amazing too. Definitely recommend them if you ever find yourself in Sea point
Very nice place to enjoy the beautiful view of the sea while eating in the middle of the city. Had a delicious and not too expensive meal here, everything was tasty and the cocktails are also recommended.
We sat 2 couples for dinner, without reservation. We got to the place in an Uber from the hotel.
The host immediately found a place for us to sit on the balcony at our request, some of the tables have a map and at our request he also placed it with us. Each ordered a cocktail/liqueur and a main course. Average restaurant, nice hospitality. Recommended for an unplanned meal (not particularly), it seems that during daylight there is a view of the sea (unfortunately we sat at night).
Very attentive and helpful, the price is not bad for what you eat and very good food.
