Reviews of Kyoto Garden Japanese Restaurant
Best restaurant ever we had eaten!! Ohh prawn dumplings 🥟!!! And delicious green tea crepe !! Brian, the manager did great job, so friendly. We enjoyed the sake. Love to come back again and again 😂. Highly recommend please note that it’s pricey but just spoil yourself to enjoy. It’s worth.
If you are looking for authentic Japanese food in a intimate setting, look no further. The food is fresh, unprotentios and of superb quality, presented to perfection. The manager, Brian turned a meal into a experience and his hospitality unmatched.
Symplistic yet stylish. A great wine & whiskey selection to compliment superb food. On the pricey side, but driven by the area and generation...
Authentic Japanese culinary experience, from the food offering to the beverage selection and even the interior. Highly recommend the sushi and the oysters.
Friendly, fast service, freshly prepared food and lots on the menu to choose from. Had the chefs platter and Japanese beer.
I recently came from Japan. The sushi chef here is a true master and the remainder of the team and menu are excellent.
This is a beautiful, elegant restaurant. The décor is serene and the space is warm and comfortable, which is very important on a cold winter's night. The service is excellent. The food is absolutely delicious, and varied, including sushi, grilled options, tempura, and soups. The Japanese-inspired cocktails are delicious. I tried the Asian Mary, which was far more delicious than any other Bloody Mary I have tasted. Highlights of the evening were the beef, duck and yellowtail grill, the mixed vegetable tempura, the seafood soup and the miso ice cream.
Best Japanese spot in the whole of Cape Town! Their scallops just melt in your mouth so fresh and succulent 😍
Very very good Sushi, so fresh. Well prepared and great service.
A unique and ambitious gem.
It takes a specific level of confidence in ingredient and execution to commit to a restaurant like this.
With outstanding quality of ingredient, insightful and experience staff that share a level of enthusiasm that is pretty comforting to see
The staff are amazing and frankly stayed way longer that I should of.
Yes, it's pricey, you will need 500 to 600 per person
But don't come here to get fill, you come here to experience flavours you would never have had otherwise.
From the tuna tartare to the line fish ceviche, one of the few, legally permitted wild abalone resturants, to arguably the best eel in town.
But don't fret if you're vegetarian, their selection of veg options are exemplary, and their noodles are amazing, do try anything to do with udon
THE COCKTAILS THOUGH
Are some of the most well balanced I've had. Their play with Japanese liquers like sake, melon liquer etc, could put most places here to shame.
An exemplary restaurant an all fronts.
We went to Kyoto Garden in February and had the pleasure to be served by Léa, a French waitress who was absolutely lovely and very knowledgeable about the menu and the different dishes offered by the chef. We sat at the bar and had a good time but unfortunately could witness how the owner of the place is managing his team from an iron fist! That was really sad to witness honestly. You could tell the staff was a lovely bunch but were not allowed to speak to one another unless required. This was really the downside of this experience and I would have happily left a 5-star review but I want the management to know that his customers can feel the toxic atmosphere he is spreading around the restaurant by micro-managing his staff. Managerial skills to be improved for sure!
I've been to Kyoto since it opened up. The food is really good, but by no means cheap. The service is sometimes good, sometimes a bit snooty. Always double check the price of anything you order. I wanted a warm drink and was recommended cherry blossom tea. They brought a cup of tea, and when that was done brought a pot of tea to top up. The bill - for tea alone- at the end of the day- R225!! Unfortunately that ruined the night for me and I won't be rushing back
Prices are definitely aimed at (very wealthy) foreigners. It would actually be quite challenging finding prices this high even in Manhattan!
Potential cheaper than an equivalent meal in Kyoto though.
The food is pretty good. And the dessert portion sizes will assist you in staying true to any get thin diet you may be on.
This was a amazing experience. Sushi is out of the books
Exquisite, and let me elaborate on that. We try to make a point of only listing really really exceptional places on both ends of the scale. This is one of them. It appears that it's owner managed, which makes all the difference in the world. It's a pleasant comfortable dining experience, the restaurants simple elegant lines and clean crisp spatial features are draped with beautiful textures and warm lighting. In customary Japanese fashion it's relatively compact whilst pulling off a neat trick of still feeling generous. Staff is very very well trained and attentive but discretely so as to not be overbearing. The sushi chef helped his apprentice gracefully and gently, such a pro. The sushi and sauces, brines, wasabi, fermented ginger etc appear to be made freshly and especially in-house, in true small boutique eatery. The Asian whiskey selection is also quite impressive.
This is by far the best sushi bar you’ll find in CapeTown. Portion sizes from rolls, nigiri and sashimi were accurate. Fish was fresh and cut with accuracy. Other than sushi the restaurant offers a versatile menu including multiple soups, grills and tempura dishes. I liked the restaurant so much and was missing authentic sushi I visited it twice during my stay.
Superb quality, amongst the best in Cape Town. A variety of sashimi which is hard to find in Cape Town! The cooked meals rich in flavour.
Perfectly edible not memorable. Sadly the reviews are right. The food is mediocre at best and service non existent. That and the crazy prices make for a big bill and dissapointing night
Really fantastic food. The fish is extraordinary, best tempura I've ever had and we had a great pudding of miso ice cream which is the perfect mix of sweet salt and cream.
Mind blowing. Superb. Loved everything from the cocktails through to the desserts. Can't recommend it highly enough. One of the best evenings out I've ever had!
Went here for Valentine’s Day and had a wonderful time! We met the owner and had some real wasabi, the food and service were amazing.
Food and service was great! The tuna sashimi melted in your mouth.
Best seafood in CT with a strong Japanese influence. The service was excellent and the owner was personally ensuring our experience was the best. Definitely a repeat indulgence
Really amazing traditional Japanese cuisine. Excellent service and well presented food. A must. Slightly on the pricey side.
The best place for sushi in Cape Town. I will be back soon.
Fancy sushi. I'm told by my betters that it's excellent sushi. My food was delicious but just a bit small at the price. For foodies I guess it's top notch. I'll have to give it another try when I'm not needing meat and potatoes.
My first time there and was pleasantly surprised. A quieter venue surrounded by not so quiet ones.
Excellent cuisine and attentive waiting.
A hidden treasure! The sushi is made by Japanese sushi chefs and is the real deal. The meso broth was delicious and meso ice cream is my new favorite flavor.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Cape Town in my opinion. Would definitely recommend the Kyoto Cosmo and Scallops (melt in your mouth).
A masterpiece. Winter special was soo good and I never had such a good miso ice cream in my life. Finishing with warm sake was the epitome.
Nice atmosphere, great location, excellent sushi, best tuna tartar ever, very friendly service. Pricey though
Just an amazing experience. Braam and Daniel were the best attendants. Served the greatest food. Definitely going back.
The food is excellent but the prices are high and portion sizes are tiny so save it for special occasions when you're not hungry or go when someone else is paying.
Best sushi in town! 👌🏾👌🏾
Beautiful and amazing place one can enjoy sea food
Can’t believe this restaurant has been here for decades. It was a special experience.
Absolutely stunning from start to finish. Great food, ambiance, service.
Good food. Slow service. Quite pricy.
they have real wasabi!
Japanese restaurant... not a sushi restaurant... the owner was amazing, awesome experience.
Small and nice! Good quality
Such a lovely place and so many options. They are really accommodating.
Friendly sraff; knowledgable; great setting etc. Value for money - not so sure!
Fantastic food, very nice venue amd great service.
Cute place, ask about their special winter menu if visiting in winter. Thank me late ;)
Best sushi, fresh food and the interior is to die for...number one one to do list
Poor food, over cooked and lacking flavour. Never once asked if everything ok. Avoid
Amazing ambiance, excellent owner & host, spectacular food!
Pricey & cramped but sushi is good.
For this price not tasty enough imo
Wonderful and impeccable service.
Food was tasty. Waiter was on his phone so we were out of sight for quite some time. The atmosphere was fine, but this could have been due to the moment/time. It looks very nice on the inside.
Without a doubt the best sushi in Cape Town. Quality food, exceptional service and very kind and professional staff, explaining the dishes down to the smallest detail! The very relaxing environment, with soft lights and oriental music in the background, projects you into a distant and relaxing place immediately! Must try :)
