Reviews of Borruso's
Love the spot. Been there a hundred times. Imran our waiter was so sweet, although rather flustered and inexperienced. Anyways, what a lovely man!
Amazing, went out of their way to assist even though they were closing, thank you, saved me from a garage pie for dinner. Food was awesome
What a fun place, the kids loved it, the pizza was magnificent, truly nothing like it, the staff were brilliant! Love love love the place. I'd have pizza there everyday if I were allowed to!
The food was absolutely delicious 😋 as always. Definitely the best pizza in the burbs.
Staff and friendly, attentive when they need to be. This is not fine dining, it's cheerful dining leaving you with a smile on your face.
It's a family/friend/date night friendly spot.
Really lekker local pizza spot! Food is super tasty and consistently good 🙌 waiters are friendly and efficient and prices are also decent!
The interior & exterior of the restaurant could do with some work (kitchen is very exposed to the public and looks pretty dirty) so that throws you off a bit if you’re a first time visitor.
I’ll be back purely for the food! But would warn you if you’re a germaphobe or sensitive to some rough food prep
Lovely restaurant, lovely server (as they always are) - her name was Sye (most likely the incorrect spelling).
The manager behind the counter comes across as VERY rude and stressed. I’m a regular customer and have noticed what I would describe as a decline in his demeanour over the last year. He manages the payments and phone orders to my knowledge.
To this manager: Please consider speaking to your staff with more decency. Last night you spoke to them as if they were incompetent - which they are not. I watched the interactions in disbelief. The entire team is working hard and doing their best in a very busy setting - your visible stress levels only add more pressure to the working environment.
Might be best to be working out of the public eye if this is the way you manage yourself in a fast paced/high stress environment.
Will always be back because this is a special little place to me, but would prefer to not see these interactions and leave feeling horrible for the staff.
Brilliant pizza haunt that makes the best wood fired pizza. Consistent and generous, a regular for us!
Friendly, efficient, accommodating
Pizzas were great apparently and I enjoyed my pasta. I would go back
Extremely well priced compared to most restaurants. Food is definitely up there with other gourmet places.
The point of sales system could definitely do with an improvement (replacement) and and cherry on top would be allowing booking for large groups in advanced.
All in all, I could definitely recommend to friend and family for the quality and price of food but wouldn't recommend if bill splitting is a required as you will struggle to understand what is what.
This restaurant just proves, NEVER "judge a book by its cover". Once you go, you'll understand exactly what I mean. Awesome atmosphere, the best pizza I have had in a long time, staff are very covid19 compliant. We had the friendliest, funniest, fantastic waitress. Definitely going again soon to try another item on the menu.
Borruso's consistently delivers first class pizzas + their pasta is even more delicious, would go as far as to say..the best in Cape town!!
"Just another 5 star review for food" or is this place really good? Well, we all love pizza, we all eat pizza and we all have had good and bad pizza. I would say, even to the non-food lovers among us: pizza is a good measuring stick.
But where to start with Burruso's?
Lets break it down into my a few categories: 1. The actual food 2. Service 3. Decor 4. Overall experience
1. The food: You don't go to Borruso's for the first time and NOT order a pizza. I mean their other food is amazing as well, but a famous and classic pizzeria will be judged on their pizza. From toppings to base I can honestly say I have not had better. I always like to order in the lines of a blue-cheese pizza, because I feel most places just slap on the cheese and expect it to be 'good enough'; so I ordered their blue-cheese and fig pizza to test their mettle. Aaand it was very very very good. The base was perfectly wood-fired, ample amount of (different types of) cheese(s) and most of all BALANCED. Kudos to balancing the sweet and blue-cheese flavour with the richness of all the other cheese as well. Despite the richness, there was balance to be found.
2. Service. Actually a bit on the OTT side, our waitron was at the table as often as can be, to see if we need anything. He was 'real' (so to speak), friendly, polite and efficient with his service - could not hope for better.
3. Decor: Best word for this is 'rustic'. It almost gives the old 'pub' feel, with different table sizes, wooden chairs and a bit on the dark side - with the hearty hymn of laughter and people enjoying the food. I might make it look a bit cleaner imho, but don't remove the rustic feel, it makes it authentic.
4 Overall: Will I go back? Yes! Was it money well spent? Yes! Would I recommend it to friends and fam? Yes!
Not often I can say I was happily surprised by my experience. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys good pizza, pasta and just a good time with family or friends.
An excellent family style restaurant with amazing Italian cuisine. The pastas are a hearty portion and the thin base pizzas are all loaded with flavour. Unfortunately because of its popularity and cozy feel it can sometimes be difficult to walk in and get a table but it's definitely worth the wait for a table. There is also no corkage which is great if you have a nice bottle of wine you are looking to enjoy.
The service is so great n there are so friendly
By far the best pizzas for a much better price than any of the chains. Baked in the pizza oven along with all their pastas. Cheerful attentive service and a chef/manager that makes sure you are enjoying your food without being overbearing. Great for couples or family.
I have been eating Borruso's pizza for about 15-20yrs and I am very pleased to say that the quality has been maintained throughout that time. An excellent spot for a pizza and a beer. Highly recommended for takeaway or eating in.
Still best pizza in CT. Very friendly staff with very attentive Waitress Alice who helped us and made sure our food was delivered to the correct people.
Side note though - coffees needs to improve. Burnt milk in cuppacinos and over extracted coffee..
Otherwise couldn't fault anything else from the night.
Was fantastic!
Great food but we went on a Friday night at 6 and had a very long wait for food. Also we didn't realise it was a noisy family place. However the lasagne was absolutely delicious and the pizza was decent. I'd definitely eat the lasagne again. We also enjoyed sharing the flambe banana pudding: it was a very fun experience. For many people this would be a great place to go: warm, cozy, and fun, but it was too loud for me to have a serious conversation which I generally like to do. The service was friendly and lovely.
This place has stood the test of time and still delivers. Had a few pizzas there the other night and they were delicious. Service always spot on and owner run. Well done guys!
The food was absolutely lovely. We had the spaghetti, lasagne and pizza. The the food was hot and fresh. Would definitely be going back! Portion sizes are also really good.
Been going for years, pizza has been delicious every time. Totally worth it. A couple more vegetarian pizzas would be nice, but if you're an omnivore, there are loads of options.
This is a wonderful spot in Cape Town. I've been going to this place since the 90s and the food, service and vibe are still awesome. A consistent experience, every time. Add extra avo, it's always a win 👌🏼
Also, they have perfected the banana flambé, one of the best desserts available in the western cape.
Food are great. From the pasta menu we had a good serving of spaghetti bolognese and lasagna. The Choc & cheese combo cake was so delicious.😋 Can't wait to visit again. In the meantime, due to lockdown regulations, we'll definitely order for home delivery. #supportlocalbusiness ❤️
Staff very friendly. The pizzas and pasta were simply devine. Just found it very noisy maybe next time we will sit outside. Otherwise a great evening out!
Borruso's has been renowned for its Pizzas and Pasta for many many years. I am normally not mad about Pizzas but those super thin bases with yummy toppings are excellent. You have to get there early to get a seat.
Wonderful, warm and quaint atmosphere. Absolutely delicious pizza. However essential to make bookings as they get extremely busy, in their favour, as to how popular and tasty their food is 💯
My favourite neighborhood gem in Kenilworth. Cosy, hole in the wall atmosphere, great hustle and bustle, and free corkage.
The pizza is amazing and well priced.
There's usually a short to medium wait to get a table as it's already busy if you don't come early, but it is well worth it!
The best Pizza place in Cape Town. Down to earth atmosphere and a definite favorite of mine.
Hands-down the best pizza in Cape Town. Burruso's is located on the corner and a narrow alley leads to a sprawling and cozy restaurant. The owners put a lot of effort into ensuring that their ingredients are of the finest quality, and it pays off in the pizza that they produce. Ask them for their suggestions and you will not be disappointed!
Really solid lasagne.
Pizzas are apparently excellent. But, lasagne always gets in the way of pizza.
Prices are good and staff are on the ball and friendly.
Update:
They survived covid lockdown. Lasagne better than remembered. Staff still awesome.
Borruso's is always busy and has a lovely vibe which is a tad surprising given that the pizzas are a bit smallish and often oily. They are a guilty pleasure but I always get the sense they are punching above their actual weight
Excellent pizza and pasta, has a homely, cozy and welcoming atmosphere. Highly recommended. Top notch staff. Can't wait to visit again, family favorite.
Maybe the best gluten free pasta uve had. Seafood pasta was divine. Pizzas were epic thin base. Love this little hidden gem
Been going here for the past (almost) 20 years of my life. Same incredible quality pizza and atmosphere all this time. Favourite pizza spot in the country hands down 🙌🏽
we have been eating here for over 20 years. quirky decor friendly staff and cheap pizza and pasta. no bookings taken but you can sit and wait outside and enjoy a drink of your choice. very popular with young and old
This is our go-to-local! It's a cosy, no frills place, that offers good comfort food and friendly service. Just up our alley, especially on a week night, when you're not keen to cook at home!
Our 4 legged fur baby comes along
We sit outside and he even got spoilt by the Owner with a slice of Chorizo.
Lovely
Always a great atmosphere. Delicious pizza's. Their pasta sauce is amazing. Their Greek salad dressing is amazing
Great pizza and alfrido pasta , entrance is easily missed :D
Awesome place. The waiters are very kind and the pizzas are just what you want. I would recommend this place for a meet up with friends.
Great place!!!! Love the pizza and the people working there are extremely nice.
The food is amazing! Generous portions, great prices & just so tasty. The service is also excellent - definitely recommend this place.
Hands down my fave pizza and pasta place! Huge bonus that they do late night take aways, and the staff are always super helpful and friendly
Over the past 10 years I would order take aways of their delicious perfectly made stone oven baked pizzas and occasionally take the family there and we can be groups of up to 12 people and we're never disappointed with the food or the service.well done for being so consistent!!!
Very enjoyable environment. Very good pizza. Excellent spaghetti bolognese. Highly recommend.
Always enjoy my visits here. I especially like the fact that one can hear people talk without a noisy background.
The best pizza of the Southern Suburbs. Well priced, warm, and tasty. Sometimes the pizza can be a bit soggy so watch out for that.
Amazing pizza, rated the best woodfired pizza in the southern suburbs. Friendly staff and quaint space with a homely atmosphere.
Best pizza i have ever had, super friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Really great pizza. Sometimes the wait can be long but totally worth it for some of the best pizza in Cape Town
Very good pizza. I love a thin base. Nice exciting toppings and good complimentary chillie sauce. Thank you.
Great experience with friends. Lovely rustic and homely feel. Definitely going back. Staff is so warm and accommodating
Good vibe, great food, basic setup but very popular. We enjoyed our night out as a family
Been coming here for 20 years
The best damn pizza, hands down
The best in Cape Town , always a pleasure to eat there.
Lovely warm ambience, really great pizza
Great Pizza, Been going for once a week for 2 years now not once has disappointed.
A hidden gem, probably the best pizza and pasta in cape town without the pretentiousness.
Highly recommend.
Great food, lovely outdoor seating area for a warm evening. Excellent service.
Best pizza in town. Family atmosphere. Always busy.
Great pizzas. No fuss, no frills but lovely selection of toppings.
Best pizza and pasta in cape town, in a cosy intimate venue! Great place for a date
Consistently good service and honestly the best pizza in town!
The place looks the same for 20 years no redecorating done time stands still
Always delicious 😋 very enjoyable, great service!!
Travelled far to have the best pizzas in South Africa!!
Would be 5 stars but the service has gone way way down.
I had a dinner in this beautiful pizzeria with a festive atmosphere.
The service is fast, efficient and friendly despite the crowds.
The pizza was very good and tasty.
I can't wait to go back.
