Amazing bar experience. Felt so at home from the friendly and quick service, drinks and filling and extremely delicious food. App has great deals. Would definitely recommend for pub grub. Clean ablution facilities. Safe parking and waiting area for ubers.

⁠ Hogshead Illovo 1 Sentence description: Worth dropping in if you’re intro craft beer and to catch up with the lads; slightly less so if food is your focus. What’s good here? ⁠A nice selection of beers - including some more ‘niche’ ones. Fast, friendly service and decent tables/areas for varying group sizes. Crumbed Mushrooms & Pulled Pork Spring Rolls were certainly ‘big’ servings for starters. What’s an ‘Opportunity for Improvement’? I’d say it’s more of a bar with food, rather than food-focussed. Menu seems varied enough but the food shaded more towards quantity than quality. Sauces (wasabi honey and roasted garlic mayo) were a tad bland (or maybe it was just the aftertaste from the great beers!). Tell me More Despite visiting it during a quite popular football (English Premiership) derby, the service was quick and friendly. A nice spot for a down-to-earth drinks with friends without too much pretence. Well worth spending time exploring the variety of craft beers and filling up with some hefty portions of ‘good enough’ food too. Anything to disclose? No - paying customer, anonymously visited. ... How I Rate: I normally rate 1-4, with 5 reserved for ’Exceptional’, i.e. “deviating from the norm” or “truly worthy of note”. * 4 stars = very good * 3 stars = good * 2 stars = average or acceptable * 1 stars = poor

Mr. T, Give this man a Bells, what an incredible member of the stuff. We had a very chilled-mini Sunday Birthday Night with him while serving others. Well done for the service you gave us with a warm stove next to us, made us feel at home.

This place is honestly always so welcoming and pleasant to be at. The staff are lovely and make the atmosphere so eventful. The manager Mr T is so wonderful and makes the experience the best.

I had an amazing experience! The service was fantastic and the food as well as the beer were both excellent. The best part was the special deals they offer on their burger meals. If you order one of the burgers on special, you can choose to receive a free glass of wine or a Castle Lite craft beer for free!

Really great selection of beers and drinks, with some of the best service you'll find in Joburg. Great place to go watch a sport game or hang out with friends. Smoking-friendly, but airy enough that it doesn't become a problem for non-smokers. Highly recommended.

It was my first time there. Not to bad. The food was ok, the burger batties had a weard off taste. The waiter lady, I think, needs more training or maybe she was new. We asked her which cocktail she would suggest and she didn't know and so with the food. We asked what's good in the menu, and yet she couldn't say. But she was really nice though.

It's a nice bar, they have a great selection of beer if your into that sort of thing. We were more keen to try the food out and it was rather disappointing. Not much flavor to the food and the chips was nothing to write home about. Had the Tacos with chicken, after our waitress was not sure of they had chicken so I was not sure what was on those Tacos but it ain't chicken. But if your keen to go for drinks with the lads and watch some sport, then this is definitely the place to go to, tje atmosphere is great and the sercice was good too.

Joined a friend on st Patrick's day. Atmosphere was vibing. We couldn't hear each other most of the night tho. Very crowded and the waitresses got drunker and drunker as the night progressed. Guess st Patrick's day wasn't ideal to go out for a drink and chat hehe.

This is a very nice venue, the layout is fairly open so plenty of fresh air. They smoke their own pork on site for some of the dishes including their pulled pork burger. The food has a very upmarket feel. The service is great and the food preparation is quick so it is nice for the quick lunch or lunch meeting during the week.

Lovely place to grab a drink. Platters a tasty but variety is limited. Lovely and open perfect for a summers day or evening. Ample variety of drink plus and in house craft beer. Service a little slow but this isn’t always the case. Nevertheless the staff are always friendly and drinks always flow! Great for after-work drinks when you just want to hang out at the local pub. The cheesy bacon fries are a satisfying cheat!

Large venue with good food and music. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Smoking is allowed at the bar and smoking area. There is a guard service for your convenience when waiting for an Uber. Was a great experience

It's a pub. It serves lots of alcohol and some good bar snacks. It is a strange set up where smoking seems to happen inside. Not sure if it is because it was raining hard, but I didn't like it. Waiters were fantastic.

Seems I can't reply to a reply so writing here - I think making sure the tables are stable and not having same person who was told no thanks pushing shots again in 3 minutes would help, also I feel the drink selection (particularly beers) could be larger although it was good in that it had few options of each kind. Perhaps they were just not all on the menu though?

The ctaft beer and vibe is great! If you are looking for a buzzing vibe then Fridays and Wednesdays are usually very busy. Great place for afterwork drinks and the best make-your-own burger I've eaten!! The burgers are great value for money :)
