From the second I started speaking to Marli, until the moment she sent our wonderful surprise engagement photos through, this was the most incredible, fulfilling and professional experience I've ever had with a photographer. Not only have we found our wedding photographer, capable of producing the most stunning of images - but we've also found a friend for life. My amazing experience with Marli started when I was looking for a South Africa-based photographer to capture my surprise proposal to my partner, Rebecca. I found her on Instagram, seeing that she had a glowing reputation for surprise engagements and immediately reached out to her. The speed with which Marli replied and the attention to detail she showed throughout my (numerous) requests was astounding. The location, the 'plan' - everything down to the last second of timing was meticulous, well thought-through and well communicated to me - and throughout the months preceding the proposal, Marli constantly checked in with me to make sure my experience was as seamless and as stressless(!) as possible! She also knew everything there was to know about surprise proposals and offered many ideas, tips and hints that would help in terms of position and movements, giving the best images. On the day of the proposal, Marli was available to chat to throughout, offering me a constant source of reassurance that (from a photography side!) everything would be ok. She arrived early at our location, looked after the bench for us until we arrived and did a fantastic 'acting' job of pretending she was leaving as we approached. From there, you wouldn't have known she was there, allowing me to pop the question to Rebecca and have our own time most importantly, before introducing herself. After the introductions, the tears (and the toilet roll - thanks again, Marli!) her style of photography shone through, with no set-up, posed shots, allowing us to be as natural around each other as we would be on a daily basis. It was a laugh from start to finish, emotional and happy, with Marli seamlessly fitting into our moment. While the process was important, Rebecca and I couldn't wait to see the photos - and trust me, they were more than worth the wait. A selection of the most incredible images were with us within 24 hours, with the lighting, framing and naturalness of each picture even far more than I'd ever hoped or dreamed of. We were stunned, emotional and delighted looking through every single image. A true collection of memories and moments to last a lifetime that captured somehow what the engagement looked like, but also how it felt! Having received the full album not long after, our family and friends were speechless at just how impressive each picture was - and I'm not surprised. As a bit of a perfectionist myself, I have rarely, if ever, been more impressed with an individual, both in terms of the work rate, application and results coming from a job. Marli is the most incredible photographer, not only capable of capturing your special moments, but making you feel as if you're in that moment every time you look at a picture. It's a gift, a skill and a true talent and neither myself, nor Rebecca could wish for anyone better. A photographer first. But a true friend now too. And we can't wait for the wedding...!
