Reviews of Kwa Mai Mai Traditional Market
A variety of food stalls available and vendors, buy and braai as well as alcohol. The service was quick and friendly, with multiple staff on ground ready to assist but the is nothing special. The place offers enough free space on the inside before having to use the shady space outside. The atmosphere is intoxicating though because its people having a good time with their bellies being fed at the same time. It's not the cleanest place upon entering as it is part located under a bridge in Johannesburg. It may come shocking to those who aren't expecting it but there is also the church of Shembe located directly next door to this braai and buy.
The food was not too bad. The meat was nice as well as the chillies. The alcohol is expensive though, and I'm Pedi so I'm not a fan of phuthu
Very welcoming and food prepared nicely.......people serving food go an extra mile to meet the customers needs on food.
To be more specific, Mr Mpungose Ndumiso, when you have time ask for his table, you wont regret
We visited this place for the first time in forever with my colleagues, trust me we had so much fun
Great atmosphere, good people and also delicious food. I'd definitely recommend this place.
What a place to be in the city the people there it'd an experience 9f a township life in the city I loved it the meat so fresh and nice 😀 😎 😄 👌🏽
Good place only problem it's always full
The place is busy for sure. Went there Saturday after work late in the afternoon with colleagues, just to see the famous place and treat the birthday girl who loves meat.
There's unity there, it's great to see Africans gathered in one with a great purpose of selling food. This is for the meatlovers.
The food is amazing, there's a vibe, I rated it 4 stars because the place is clustered, and it's not easy to move around
I love this place it's a great place to get all ur traditional attires and meds
I have always heard people talking about this place. When I arrived it was so full outside with most individuals drinking alcohol and playing music. Most people were outside.
For the food I'd give it Two stars because our food was served on wooden platters that had pieces of the wood falling off the sides, the food tasted okay, and the hygiene in the area I'd allocate 1 star.
I was just glad I got to experience going to kwa Mai Mai.
First time there. Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Fairly safe area with car guards (if driving). Staff there to assist. Food was what I expected and more. A must visit when in the area
Nathi’s stall is the place to go for high quality and well made Xhosa beadwork accessories.
Day we'll spent, truly! One of Joburg's oldest markets, the Kwa Mai Mai market is also known as Ezinyangeni, or 'the place of healers' and has for decades been one of the city's most established muthi (traditional medicine) markets. Located just a few blocks from the Maboneng Precinct, the market's reputation as a down-to-earth spot to grab traditional South African street food has grown steadily in recent years and positively exploded in 2020.😋🏆
It is the most loudest place ever yet nice and chilled.
I'm definitely planning on going again😁.
Its so nice and their meat is very delicious
Great place to have braii and hangout on the weekends!!
I'm not happy about hygiene there ... Inspection needs to be done ..but ambiance is great ..best social gathering
The food was amazing the atmosphere was everything. Loved it very much and I'm willing to go back anytime 😊
If you're looking for a vibe; laid back, relaxed and authentic_ kwa Mai Mai is the place to be. I highly reccomend
Joyable place.if you are a maskandi fan come to Kwa Mai Mai lots of stalls to buy food there's shelters to sit n enjoy your meal especially meat if ur a meat lover come to Kwa Mai mai
Always a vibe...but bathroom situation is not ideal.
Good vibes and i enjoy the fact that the food is overpriced but always lekker!
Well prepared food... And the vibe is electrifying. 👌👌👌
We had fun, even though the place was parked, but it was lit
Always a good time there, and the meat 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
If you happen to visit there, look for a woman named SLENDER she is to me the barbecue master there,❤️
Great meat and fun to be around
Definitely overrated but the food is great. It is always packed and loud. Finding parking and a table is a mission so always be prepared to struggle with that.
The atmosphere is different it brings the 1990s experience we as Zulus we proud of our culture/ tradion, the food, the language it just feels so awsum to be there💃🤸♀️💃❤️💯
You need to be open minded to eat here, the place was packed, parking was a nightmare.
However I would recommend it to people who want to experience the taste of johannesburg, be ready to socialize cause wow its happening here.
Nice vibe. Good to go there once in awhile
The best place for entertainment and good restaurants.. Nice place to have fun with friends
The vibe there is unmatched. The food is great. No security, but its safe. The 4 star is for being overcrowded and not being able to move around. You sometimes get there and not find a spot
Food was amazing very delicious, very friendly environment with good music
Awesome place! Amazing vibe, outstanding service, phenomenal food. Definitely a great place to hang w friends or even go for a date yang'thola? 😂 Defo a fave.
Great meat i ate there
A cool place to relax ,very vibrant and a space to socialise over weekends
It's just a perfect place to hang out mostly on heritage day
I love the place, music is great you also socialize with different people 🥰
Best place to eat. Chill. And good music
The place is chilled m, diverse and safe. However it gets too crowded and limited parking space.
For the 1st time in years to feel so safe around Johannesburg. I even managed to park a car and stood under the bridge whilst admiring Izinsizwa.💃💃💃. I'll go there again should my hubby feels like having unfiltered food😜
It's OK, went there for skop. The outside is kinda dirty but inside it's OK. I guess the place is not for everyone like every other place
They serve really good food at affordable prices and there's always a nice vibe. There's parking available inside. They sell really good traditional attires as well but mostly Zulu traditional attires.
Let's go again for traditional clothes
Was very Awesome...Enjoyable
Very lovely market place to chill with friends. An outing for all Youth of South Africa. Good meat and everything

This place is nice and chilled good experience when you want to chill with friends as a group
A wonderful emporium of all things traditionally African. From muti to leopard skin, bead work, you name it. Leave your valuables at home, have your wits about you and preferably travel with a friend or two for safety.
Lovely place to hang out with friends for a braai.
The place is a vibe. It is alway full. The meat is affordable. You bring your own drinks and you just buy food and chill
It's cool as I like traditional things and the food is affordable
Went there to hire some traditional zulu attire, there are many shops to choose from but got these from MaMswane's shop. Very lovely lady, felt like a mother.. Bridal goes for R1000, bridesmaids for R400
Rather head there as a crew, surrounding area not safe. Reasonable and variety of food to choose from. Perfect Sunday vibes🤞😎
It was as good but not as expected it need some improvement
Very nice place and enjoy each and every moment
The best place in Johannesburg - South Africa.
It's so chilled? Do we know who you are? Nah we don't care - We just here for some good meat, great laughter and good chill.

Great food, great prices and nice vibe

#Falabo Khuzwayo
#Imfezemnyama
#Ntencane
There's only one thing I didn't like...the traffic jam thing. If you arrive early and park inside...it's impossible to leave.
Top chisanyama
Great prices
Sweet, drooling sweet meat mmmmmm smooth
A lot of meat.
You will find it at Kwa Mai Mai literally 💙😋👌🏽
The vibe is unbelievable, nice pap n meat Ziyakhipha nje
Very nice place and helpful...The people there are very kind
They are selling the best inyama yenhlonko I could ever ask for thank you
We enjoyed, from class we stayed till late
It get very packed, no covid protocols observed. It's safe to park outside as there are guards present. Toilets are locked randomly and cost R2 to use. It can get very hot and you come out smelling like smoke😅
Its genuine, what makes it more unique is how patrons serve their clients and it has not changed since it satrted operating many many years ago. It is a place for all to hangout have drinks and braai meat and have some traditional beer with mo hassle.
Nice meal
