Reviews of The Bay Hotel
From check-in at the Bay hotel, we were greeted by several friendly faces and Peter’s bubbly personality certainly stood out.
Peter really went out of his way to make our stay all more pleasurable
The hotel is in a beautiful location made even better by the amazing staff not to mention the stunning views of both the mountain and ocean.
Out stay was really great we will definitely be back!
Can’t go wrong with location but unfortunately the hotel food is very average and overpriced. Does not cater for children (ours were 5&6) very well.
We also had an unfortunate smelly drain in our room (Cabanas 131&132) that took a while to fix and persisted throughout the stay.
The actual water out the taps also smelled horrid.
Service from staff was friendly and can’t be faulted. Size of rooms and bathrooms very nice. Nowhere to hide on a windy day though, all the swimming pools are exposed.
But in terms of location, you can’t go wrong. Walking distance to Camps Bay beach and all the bars and restaurants.
Good for 1-2 nights if you have small children but can’t do more than that.
Really an awesome place, enjoyed the deck and view. Great all round experience.
I have not stayed at the hotel but I have used the spa and pool on two occasions and oh my god, amazing. The spa is such a treat and the staff are so good at what they do. I cannot remember the name of who gave me a massage but Mbali did my facial and it was the best facial I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot. The pool is lovely as well and you can use it when you use the spa (after spending a certain amount) in the off season. Would highly recommend!
Wonderful views, super service and great accommodation. We will be back for another stay in the near future.
I want to go back again. It’s close to almost everything. The view from the rooms are amazing. The atmosphere and the service is very good
Wow absolutely stunning place just had a fantastic 5 night stay at the bay hotel the spa was fantastic food was lovely you won’t get better in Cape Town than this place people.
A massive thank you to manelisi he went above and beyond to make our stay special what a great guy 😘
A great location and lots of place to lie in the sun by a pool. But food and service were below our expectation.
Bad : On our last day my drone got stolen around the pool. I alerted management straight away to check the CCTV footage. The manager said that they were getting IT to download the footage. I followed up with them several hours later to find out how they’re getting on with that CCTV footage to which the manager replied that they’re still downloading it. I found that to be quite suspicious as the theft had only happened the day before so why was it taking so long. We then had to leave for the airport and the manager said that he will contact me via email to let me know the outcome of the CCTV footage. Well it’s 5 weeks later and I’ve not heard a thing. I guess they’re still downloading that footage…
Good: We had a great stay, the room was spectacular and housekeeping did a wonderful job at keeping our room and bathroom clean. The included breakfast every day was also very nice.
The rooms there are luxurious ,amazing location near bars, restaurants, the service is really great also their stuff members are friendly and it has nice view 👌
Stunning views and wonderful service at the upstairs bar, I was nervous going out for the first time after a long isolation period. We couldn't choose a better place. The tables were well spaced, the view unforgettable and Caamil was the most outstanding host, charming us with stories and treating us like royalty. A+++
Phenomenal service at the Bay hotel, it was a hot day in Cape Town event though it was a week day it was pretty full when we arrived. The friendly waiters assisted us in getting a comfy spot near the pool where we spend the rest of the evening watching the beautiful South African sunset, we even spotted some whales having fun in the distance. The sushi was really good too.
We had such a splendid stay we hated to leave! Thoroughly enjoyed the breathtaking views from our Penthouse Suite! Thank you so much for the exceptional service. Everything was top notch. We shall surely be back!
Our four days at the Bay Hotel for our second honeymoon , made it thousand times better than our first one. Breathtaking view was so romantic , everything was just perfection. From Hotel , decor , food , staff , friendliness , service I rate The Bay Hotel 100 × 100. Can't wait to go visit again. Thank you. Best 4 days of our lives. ♥️♥️
Lovely hotel situated in the centre of the beautiful Camps Bay area of Cape Town. Friendly, approachable and professional staff. Table Mountain view rooms face away from the pool and are peaceful. If opting for one of these rooms I would suggest requesting a room further down the corridor, not rooms 04 and 06, as the view from these rooms is hindered by the sight of an air con vent.
Also, check out their sister hotel, Camps Bay Retreat, which hosts an excellent BBQ on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
In short, good food, multiple pools, great staff, good cocktails. We would happily return to the Bay Hotel.
Absolutely loved The Bay hotel. We came on a day pass. The views are absolutely amazing. The staff were friendly and accomodating. Wonderful service. Feels of luxury and great vibes.
Great room with view.
BUT PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BATHROOMS. Absolutely shocking , like something from my nans house circa 1975.
The rest of the hotel is on point.
Just stayed in 2 hotels in the city centre new and modern with crisp, fresh bathrooms.
PS whats with the blue chair ffs
Wonderful hotel situated at a prime spot in CT, with stunning views of the ocean. A great spot for breakfast and at sunset. The rooms are spacious and so lux, with heated towel rails. The bedroom area is huge with lounging area and good views. Had a comfortable stay here.
My first stay at The Bay, and during level 1 COVID. The staff were incredible, friendly, accommodating & professional. Excellent in every way. Hotel was beautifully clean and safe. Great location!
Things that were concerning: level of noise, this come with the great location. I was fortunate enough that there was a midnight curfew... once that is gone, can imagine noise level will be insane, especially in season.
Criticism: smoking should be banned. Neighbours smoking on their balconies made my room stink. Also very much evident that marijuana is now legal in SA. There was a constant waft of it through the passages & even into my room through vents. At least I prefer this smell to cigarette tobacco.
Give The Bay a try, rap if you’re in CT to jol.
Not sure who rated this a 5 star hotel but it's a lie. No proper parking for guests so it's a first come first serve basis or you have to park at the back.
Reception not quick to answer phones and the ultimate is the breakfast which is supposed to be included in the total price.
But on day one, no mention on any restrictions with ordering off menu for breakfast as they don't do the buffet anymore for supposed covid related reason but it's a cost saving measure.
Day 2 and you can only have one order off menu and orange juice or filter coffee but not both ha! And it rates itself 5 star.
The best thing about this place is the location but location does not make a hotel, it's the service which is lack luster and far from five star.
Nice view. Great breakfast. Nice pool area. Very good room service. Mr. James from the entrance control is very friendly and the best member of the hotel staff. Very good contact. Thanks to James from Stefan and Petra
Excellent service from the start to end. Kulshum very professional and Awesome service. Room is neat and wifi is tops! Complimentary gifts Awesome! Marvelous breakfast and bar area. The Mint wellness Spa!! Omg . Awesome service... back and feet massage every penny worth!! Would def go again!! 5 star hotel The Bay cape town best!!!
Great location. Clean and spacious rooms. I liked that there were nespresso machines in the rooms. Friendly and helpful staff. Great restaurant, a bit pricey. Would recommended their pizzas! I would definitely book here again.
One of our favorite get aways. The Hotel is absolutely beautiful and the service is excellent. The rooms are exquisite and spacious. Whether you want to be inside or outside everything is beautiful and the views are spectacular.
Great venue space, friendly staff, clean amenities. Opposite beach and close to the main strip at Camps Bay
Absolutely stunning views and rooms, had some issues with admin things during out stay, but the loungers, pools and good housekeeping made it such a memorable stay!
Five Star service and excellent hospitality from one and all at the hotel.....thank you Shakier, Jamiel, Oscar, Belinda, Roger, Rolanda and last but certainly not least, Lloyd Brown. Your team was fantastic. And a big thank you to the cleaning staff as well....#YSBH
Friendly staff⭐️
Great location👍🏼 rooms was very clean, except the balcony
A fabulous hotel the staff a top class friendly and efficient.
Always the best experience, the rooms are extremely comfortable, staff make you feel like you are on holiday and the view is indescribable.
Definitely always trying to get back here.
My favorite spot. Whether just for the day by the pool with snacks or staying over night. The Bay hotel never disappoints.
Last few relaxing days in THE hotel in Camps Bay before we are heading back to Europe.
Great service and a superb location on the beach at Camps Bay. Good food, plenty of local bars and restaurants too. Cabana rooms are great.
Great location walking distance to everything you would expect at Camps Bay. Waited an hour for food at the restaurant but it was delicious. Service is lacking.
It’s the place to be in Camps. Location is obviously great but the team is caring and very polite. Always look after you. Bad points? Naaaa…
Great hotel on the beach. Food was good and great service. Tide pools nearby we're amazing.
Across the road from beach.
Lovely pools.
Excellent service besides breakfast.....staff.
Bed Xtra hard!!!!
Lovely breakfast, service and atmosphere. Few metres from the beach with beautiful beach view of Camps Bay.
The arrangements for the Sanlam Top Destinations Awards at the Bay Hotel have been outstanding - so was the food
Very helpful staff. Loved the room and view.
Nice place. Located in camps bay. Good venue for functions as well with quite a big hall
Amazing service, excellent location, superior accomodation and nothing was too much to ask.
If you thinking of getting married in CT...this one should be on your list!
Enjoyable moments in a friends Wedding 💍
Great service, friendly staff & Caamil is the absolute best host!
Attended a workshop at the Rotunda. Lovely place. Only problem is that there is not enough parking.
Most friendly staff and lovely guests and the best service love this place
Very nice plays with interesting food. Awesome desert!!
1 night stay was pleasant.
The hotel is great! The large, modern and comfortable room with direct access to the pool. The hotel employees were very professional and extremely kind and friendly (we had an inconvenience caused by the wind before leaving the hotel and they behaved wonderfully with us, thank you!). Very varied breakfast and excellent bar. The wonderful beach is just across the street and there are very good restaurants in the area. Very quiet at night and very close to the city (only 10 minutes by car). Highly recommended.
I still regret not being able to fully enjoy this wonderful hotel. The facilities and view of this hotel were so good that I wanted to extend my trip to South Africa by an extra day. The breakfast is great, the rooms are cozy, and best of all, the ocean view is beautiful just by opening the door and crossing the street.
The location of the hotel is really perfect, directly on the beach with the twelve apostles in the background and signal hill on the side. The views are magnificent. |However, we pay well for these advantages with regard to the rooms which are aging, in particular the bathroom unworthy of the price paid (for standard rooms). In addition, our room overlooked the back of the hotel and we had a huge kitchen fan all night long. Another small annoying point when you have children is that they are not allowed in one of the two swimming pools (the heated one of course) which is never pleasant. The swimming pool area with the marvelous view of the sea remains very pretty.|Finally, certain common areas deserve renovation. |
Simply a wonderful stay! We felt completely comfortable. The service, the rooms, the food - everything was great! Especially a big thank you to JADEN for the great poolside service and the world's best frozen margherita! 😉
What makes the hotel exceptional is its exposed location on the beach at Camps Bay. The service of the reception staff and the condition of the rooms are not 5-star standard...
The rooms, we had a free upgrade to a beach view room, are spacious but very old. Something could be achieved here with little effort (new carpet, painting ceiling...).
We wouldn't book again because the price-performance ratio was unreasonable.
Pleasant hotel, good location in the center and magnificent view, spacious room..excellent breakfast and the bistro restaurant was very good! Very responsive and very friendly staff. The price of accommodation depends on the sea view! The hotel is a little old! But still very pleasant.|| ||I blame the noise around the pool very early in the morning, the staff made a lot of noise when they placed the cushions on the deckchairs, they spoke loudly and it was impossible to sleep. It's a shame!!! Also at breakfast people come to have breakfast in their pajamas 🙈I have never seen that in my life in a hotel. Management should advise of the dress requirements in the restaurant.
I don't normally write reviews, but since we were so annoyed during our not exactly inexpensive stay at this hotel, I would like to spare other guests the same.|To begin with: We expressed our annoyance several times during our stay and the hotel staff on site asked for various improvements - but we were simply ignored or promised help that was ultimately never provided. |In this review, I deliberately only stick to the deepest lowlights in order not to go beyond the scope, but I would like to emphasize that nothing, absolutely nothing, about the service here was right.|It already happened at check-in at night started when we discovered that our bed configuration was not fulfilled as previously communicated (twice!). Despite asking ridiculous six times (!), we didn't receive our second duvet until the end. Maybe we weren't persistent enough...|The bathrooms are more than dreary, there isn't a single socket. The rooms themselves are overall not well thought out (sockets are also missing next to the bed; USB ports don't work) and are very outdated. The air conditioning is loud and, like the TV, only works with a lot of luck. Overall, there were several power outages and the toilet and shower could not be used twice because the water was turned off for a few hours. During our stay, renovations were carried out on the facade and on the balconies of the rooms. We were promised upon arrival that our room would not be affected. Unfortunately, this was not correct, as we discovered one morning when we wanted to sleep in when external construction workers suddenly started working loudly on our terrace and looked through the window or, at the end of the day, simply left their lunch on our terrace table. When asked at reception, they only made ironic jokes about it, so at least someone was having fun. In general, none of the times we had to go to reception were apologized for the inconvenience. Room service repeatedly forgot to refill toilet paper, towels and shower gel, which is why we had to trudge back to reception at night after day trips Restaurant (tested in the morning and evening - first of all: stay away from both meals and choose one of the great restaurants in the immediate area) numerous employees, but no one offers acceptable service. Unprofessional, disinterested, impersonal describes it very well. This was also confirmed by other guests. Although we originally booked breakfast, we ate breakfast out the last few days so as not to start the day in a bad mood. I'll save myself from talking about the highly praised bar in the hotel, as we were already annoyed enough here. Conclusion: This hotel was obviously THE address in Camps Bay many years ago. This reputation is built on and not a single one of the many employees seemed as if they were interested in offering the guests present a pleasant or service-oriented stay. Basically an all-round care package at the most expensive level. With the best will in the world, we can't explain how anyone can give a good review here at these overnight prices. This hotel does not do justice to this beautiful area here in Camps Bay and was a massive disappointment for us. However, we are happy to give one star for the priceless feeling of finally being able to leave and looking forward to home.
The location of the hotel is great!
But: the hotel itself is very old and urgently needs to be revitalized. Our bathroom happened to be newly renovated. The shower had a glass wall on one side, the rest was open. As a result, the entire bathroom flooded after every shower. (What was the architect's job???) The shower cup is so slippery and smooth, really dangerous. Room service often wasn't there until 5 p.m. The room door could only be opened or closed with force.
The breakfast was more than poor for a 5-star hotel. But more staff than guests.
The positive: the staff is very friendly everywhere, whether at breakfast, on the sun terrace or in the parking lot. (not necessarily at the reception).
beautiful location on the best beach on the cape. many restaurants within walking distance and an excellent base for hikes and cape trips. excellent luxury hotel, neat rooms.
We stayed at the Bay Hotel for 5 nights. Since we had a night flight, we got there much earlier than the regular check-in time. Since we had to wait a bit for our room, we were provided with a cappuccino on the house while we waited and were able to make ourselves comfortable on the loungers by the pool. The location is great - right on the great beach. Beautiful balcony with sea views and covered and windless. Great breakfast and great restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Guarded parking lot directly at the house. We would definitely come back!
We came to spend a weekend at the bay hotel during our stay in Cape Town. |The hotel is magnificent and offers a breathtaking view of Camps Bay. The hotel has 3 very pleasant swimming pools. |Nevertheless, the hotel staff is very unpleasant... |We came back 2 days later to enjoy the swimming pool and eat there. We were rudely dismissed under the pretext that we had to pay 300 Zar for a deckchair. |The hotel is empty... |It’s a shame that the staff is neither qualified nor polite with customers because the hotel remains very beautiful. ||
A 10 minute taxi ride from the Waterfront, in one of the most beautiful bays in Cape Town, this || boutique hotel offers every comfort, fully equipped gym, sauna, Turkish bath, an outdoor swimming pool and a couple of smaller private pools for the suites. Our room, premier sea view, with balcony overlooking the sea was beautiful, a true 5-star room. Large, comfortable beds for a truly restful sleep. But the gem of the hotel for me is the breakfast room, all glass windows that seem to jut out onto the sea. Entering it in the morning is already a guarantee of a good day, if we then add the fabulous buffet (a stand dedicated solely to fruit)... What more could you ask for in life? ||If you want to have dinner there you will be surprised by the quality and presentation as well as the abundance of the portions. Moderate prices for a restaurant of that level
We liked the hotel and the location. However, I almost expected more. The rooms are ok, the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is quite narrow and is already getting old.
Wifi worked very well, and the protected parking was also very comfortable.
The breakfast place was great, the service still has room for improvement. There was always something missing from the buffet, which is not possible in a high-priced 5-star hotel.
The service in the bars was very nice, and the staff at the reception and especially at the entrance (security) were also very friendly.
I've been a couple of times and will definitely go back. located in Camps Bay, a beautiful bay with a splendid beach 10 minutes from the centre, away from the chaos but equally comfortable. it's not very big (almost a boutique hotel), nice swimming pool and comfortable rooms. the first time I had a nice room with a view, the second time they upgraded me to a fantastic suite. crossing the road you are on a beautiful beach to where you can see a unique sunset!
