Reviews of Satyagraha House
I have been waiting years to visit Satyagraha house and was not disappointed. The feeling was being in a different vibration. It was peaceful pure and light. The staff were all so kind and helpful. It was an uplifting experience. Thank you.
Being of Indian origin, this place has a special significance for me due to it being Gandhi Ji’s residence for many years. Is it a must visit in Joburg, maybe not. But if you do have time, and you are a history enthusiast, you should come here
A tranquil oasis, visit for the historic significance, but stay a while to enjoy a lovely vegan meal.
Thanks to the architect who designed the place it's like out of town and it brings out the best in u and have great ideas while u walk through the inspiring garden .love the place , it's different style .
A true hidden gem in Johannesburg! If you are in search of some tranquility and serenity to escape the bustle of the city this is the place.
This is a hidden secret.
I spent an hour there and felt at peace.
I couldn’t stay for dinner and tea paring, but I am told that it was incredible.
Very nice & peaceful place. Great reception and well explained about the MKG travel in SA.
Rich heritage depicting Gandhi's struggles to abolish apartheid in SA
It's a good historical place if interested in knowing more about Ghandi's life.
Hidden gem. History of India outside of India. Peaceful place
Best service I enjoyed the stay

Beautiful, inspiring
Experience of a lifetime
Just simple
This guesthouse is sublime. I don't regret booking my last night in Johannesburg there, despite the price. The place is beautiful and peaceful. Above all, it was an opportunity to discover Gandhi's years in South Africa and the influence they had on his future destiny.
This beautifully landscaped setting offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
This hotel-museum, dedicated to Gandhi, is fascinating; each room captivates us and transports us back in time.
Our dinner by the fireplace was sublime, perfectly in tune with the spirit of the establishment. The vegetarian dishes were delicious!
The very welcoming staff fully assisted us throughout our stay, both by giving us a tour of the hotel-museum in French and by offering helpful advice on exploring the surrounding area.
Thank you so much!
Located in a quiet neighborhood of Johannesburg, this museum hotel is filled with charm, history, and spirituality. A welcoming team leads tours of the museum and shares Gandhi's story. A beautiful, luxurious room with a refined decor. Meals are served in Gandhi's former home. A truly beautiful location.
Superb, very quiet place with superb rooms. Very professional and friendly welcome. Sumptuous breakfast in Gandhi's house. Don't hesitate to spend at least one night there.
It was sold to us as a charming hotel and, honestly, it is not. As a bed and breakfast/pension (this is its Tripadvisor definition) it is certainly at the top as a hotel...let's talk about it. Basic rooms, equally bathroom, no wardrobe but a "drying rack" for clothes. Wall window without the possibility of closing, only white veil curtains very Ghandi but also very useless when the sun rises, you have to wake up. Excellent dinner but... there is no wine and I don't like dining with fruit juice. The environment is very zen and relaxing with a beautiful garden but also very "basic" in terms of comfort especially after a long plane journey.||The staff is kind and helpful but I can't help but think that, if the room Had ours been occupied next door, privacy would also have gone out the window.
A beautiful place to relax. The staff are very attentive. The rooms are very comfortable, but a little too warm because of the underfloor heating. Don't hesitate to let us know. The meals are delicious, featuring South African specialties. And a must for those who love India and Gandhi: he stayed here for a year. Meals are served in the house he occupied, and his bedroom, which he had installed on the mezzanine, can be visited. Take the time to meditate there...
We returned two years after being forced out by the pandemic, and this place remains magical, with ever-so-welcoming staff. We were lucky enough to sleep in the central pavilion and enjoy an exceptional vegetarian dinner.
A unique place in the world. ||The house where Ghandi lived in Johannesburg, with the architect Hermann Kalenbach, designed by him for both of them. ||Here we can feel inner peace and the beauty of simplicity. ||The restoration of the house, the photos and texts transport us to the time of its original inhabitants and to a whole way of being and feeling.||Not to be missed. Even if you just want to visit the Museum house.
A wonderful moment of relaxation and zen. We learned a lot about Gandhi's life and the beginnings of his struggle and resistance to inequality.
Vegetarian and alcohol-free meal.
Rest assured.
Beautiful, well-restored place. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Book without hesitation.
Unforgettable experience in a place steeped in history and tastefully decorated. Very attentive staff giving good advice.
