Reviews of Nigiro Teacafe
If you are a lover of tea, this place is a must-visit. Such an amazing selection that you will find it hard to make a choice. Atmosphere is incredibly peaceful and is a nice place to catch up with a friend over some tea and delicious food.
The food is vegan based, with some vegetarian options. They are very good with handling precautions for people with allergies, which is a huge plus if you have food allergies and have had experience with cross contamination.
This Teacafe is an absolute gem. I received the warmest greeting and the owner actually remembered me even though I had only been in once before, many weeks prior.
Their tea selection is simple awe inspiring and extremely well priced. I had the omelette which was delicious and its tea pairing.
My girlfriend has insisted that I bring her along on my next visit, which will hopefully be very soon.
Customer service at its absolute best!!
Massive selection of teas! 600+! The food is great and staff are very friendly and welcoming.
They also hold different classes at the teacafe, such as Mandarin Caligraphy and Chinese Watercolour painting.
A tea master was at the Cafe who made us a selection of teas, all amazing!
The Cafe also has its own shop where you can buy authentic imported products, such as Taiwanese wafers and mochi.
Great place, highly recommend and definitely a place you need to visit if you love tea.
What an awesome experience for a place that neither serves any meat nor alcohol. You get positive vibes as soons as you enter, it feels like home away from home. I came here alone but did nit felt a wee bit wierd about it unlike some other places I've dined alone.
This is a tea lovers paradise, the variety of teas that you can taste and buy here is mind boggling considering that CapeTown is primarily known for its coffee scene. The whole tea tasting experience is ceremonial and therapeutic. The food is vegetarian with egg as the only form of poultry on the menu. I tried the dim sum starter and it was fantastic. The japanese dew of pearl tea was also terrific.
Had a lengthy chat with Lisa and Miengwe who took time to explain the place, its origin and tea in general. They take great care in maintaing the place and the family vibe in it. Thank you to both of them.
Having travelled 23 Km to try this place out was worth the travel in this heat. I will definitely recommend to all tea lovers and/or vegetarians outh there. "I will be back" with a bigger entourage next time.
The food was great.. there is a set menu daily. Extremely healthy and tasty food.. we had the ravioli with spinach and mushrooms topped with cheese and an amazing sauce !!!!! I also had a raw cheesecake for dessert.. the concept is so different and hats off to the owner, Lisa, who pursued to make it great for her customers.. she is also very friendly and continuously checks up on her customers.. the food is made fresh and tastes AMAZE!!! There are also miniature games that can be played whilst waiting for your food..
Was an absolutely amazing time, I can’t even begin to describe the food we had, it was unlike any western food I’ve ever had, it was such an amazing cultural experience eating such awesome Japanese good.
The tea options are 200% longer than the food menu. The tea is also just so amazing! I mean I didn’t even know some of these teas existed.
One of my favourite places to grab a bite or have a good cup of tea. There is a wide variety of tea selections and most have proven to be great. The staff is friendly and the service is great. They always serve appetizers and they are always great.
Nigiro Teacafe, is fascinating, with all the flavours imagined, 350 different teas. Japanese dumplings available, chop stix, glass noodles, and other varieties. Delicious Vegan choc cake, apple crumble, cheese cakes. Reallt enjoyed the visit, lovely spot. Seating indoor or out. 👏👏👏
I had their dim sum at the city market and was just blown away, I ate it twice! The first vegan dim sum of my life, I didn't feel there was any compromise in taste or experience from normal dim sum. If there is ever a chain, I want an email!
Really amazing tea and food experience!! The staff is super friendly and provides more than enough explanation on what they serving and with what each pot of tea is recommended!
Found this place on The Entertainer and wow what a great find!
We tried out the tea tasting and let me just say that I'll never look at tea the same 😂
Lisa was an amazing host, very knowledgeable 👌🏽 we've definitely learnt a lot from her.
Will be going back with more friends in the future 😌
A classic for us when we’re down, amazingly open on Easter long weekend. A comfy place with friendly staff to advice o the range of teas to pair with our dishes. A must if you happen to be in and around the city and definitely the right place if you looking for the widest range of tea in town!
Really nice experience. Very well priced. So many teas to choose from. Amazing service from the staff and the owner as well. Highly recommend!
They have such a wonderful and large selection of teas, which is brewed right in front of you. The service was excellent and the waitress even offered to refill our tea pot with hot water, free of charge. All the food on the menu is vegetarian and really worth it. You cant go wrong with what ever you order.
Loved this little hide away!! Im not a vegan but loved the food, Made just like a home cooked meal. I will defs be back!
I have been visiting Oways for at least 6 years now, and every single visit is an unforgettable experience within itself. The Tea is magnificent in both flavour and in the ceremonial fashion in which it is served. The food is always more-ish (I like to eat) and the menu changes with the natural flow of the seasons. I highly recommend a visit to one of my top 'happy places' in Cape Town.
Best vegetarian food, and various selection of tea, you must taste it.
And now for something different. Huge assortment of teas and yummy food on offer. Definitely a place to go visit, at least once!
This IS the most amazing space! I wish I could work from there everyday. It's a tea experience, a beautiful shop and wonderful service, great vegetarian/vegan food. We loved it!
Definelty worth a visit. The atmosphere was very inviting.
The food was delicious. And the suggestion of accompaning tea was perfect.
😍 This place is special and the owner is super friendly not to mention the staff they are just as happy to be working at the place the aura is unbelievable I totally loved it
This is one of the most exciting hidden gems I've found in a while. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The tea menu is almost overwhelming with so many exciting options. The food menu is full of intriguing and interesting dishes with some flavour combinations I've never experienced (like the wontons in rooibos and mushroom sauce) Every single food item was delicious and was executed perfectly. The Japanese cheesecake was sublime. I can't recommend this place enough.
If you never need tranquility, peacefulness and a good cup of tea or coffee for that matter. Come here. If you don't find yourself becoming a regular visitor comment on my rating. ....lol
Amazing selection of teas served in a tea pot with a candle and a timer, great experience! Japanese cheesecake is good for afternoon tea.
Friendly staff and good service with a lovely Asian pantry shop to buy teas, pots and condiments.
Would only recommend the premises/fit out be updated to elevate the experience.
Hidden gem in Claremont... Great vegetarian menu with a grand selection of teas. Always lovely having Lisa guide you through the menu.
Wonderful tea house Tried the 9 lives infusion. Was delicious. Good coffee too. Good vegan options for meals as well as several vegan cakes to to choose from Giod size, well stocked store with lovely outdoor seating. The hostess was very warm and taught us a thing or two about tea making. Friendly staff. Will be back tomorrow.
Splendid, amazing and good customer service, beautiful environment and amazing tasting and looking food, this place is very colorful. This restaurants waiters and people are the most welcoming and calming, people here are happy and make you happy with tea and the food, ohhh what was that?? Tea? Yes of course, this places tea ia top tier mountain fresh made tea and has all the tea you can think of, this place i HIGHLY recommend it, it'll change the experience of restaurants for you.
What an amazing, and welcoming experience. The atmosphere is warm, and very relaxing. Great Veg & Vegan menu options, that you will not find anywhere else :) and most of all, the exquisite tea selection. So much too choose from!
I loved the vegetarian dishes. You have to enter with an open mind.
The tea combos with the food is amazing. If you are new or overwhelmed by all the tea, trust your server. They have excellent taste.
Not what it used to be sadly. The staff seem to have taken over to the extent that one of their children, a four year old girl, roams freely and is extraordinarily boundary crossing. She came to our table and tried to snatch our belongings off the table and then stuck her finger in our cheesecake. I had to speak to her sternly to get her to stop. This was evidently of not much concern for the mother, or the waiter/manager who could very well see what was going on. When it came to paying there was a strange moment when the card machine "is not working" and yet we were not allowed to see the readout on the machine. When asked to try again, which request was clearly not appreciated, it was very clear that I was not allowed to see what he was entering into the device. I am quite sure that the tanaction was not reattempted. It was clearly a way to ensure that we paid in cash. And I had to ask for a receipt. The service had the same form as it used to, but with none of the panache. I get the feeling that the tea-shop has gone from being a marketing exercise to being an afterthought. i won't be returning.
We are regulars at this beautiful establishment! You'll find attentive staff, delicious vegan and vegetarian food, and the most magical giant selection of teas. We also always end up picking up a few things from the shop inside. Highly recommend!
Tea + Me = Happy. Lovely service and I had the most amazing spinach ravioli TO DIE FOR!!!
This place is amazing. We did a tea tasting and one of the owners told us all about the teas. You could ask him anything and he would tell. Staff all friendly and the tea tasting was definitely worth the money. The baked Japanese cheesecake was amazing.
Very cute little tea shop. Go prepared as there is a overwhelming amount of teas on the menu. Vegan mint and choclate cake was wonderful paired with Thai Royal green tea. A must if you love all things Asian. Cute little shop inside with dumplings , teas, mochi, bubble tea and noodles. Reasonable prices as well.
Oh my goodness gracious. I ordered tea online from them, and it arrived in 1 day - so the service and shipping was great. Then comes the taste of the teas... HOLY SMOKES. I have never tasted tea like this. I didn't know tea could be this good!!!! WOW
Best tea selection I have ever seen.
Amazing owners. They are so friendly and welcoming.
Fantastic vegan and vegetarian menu, with delicious desserts.
Had a tea tasting there with friends and it was amazing. The tea master was friendly, knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Definitely worth a try. The food at the restaurant is great too! Best Japanese fluffy cheesecake I've managed to find in SA.
Lovely eatery with very calming atmosphere. Huge range of teas (green, ceylon, herbal, fruit, etc) as the name suggests with good coffee also served. Has a very unique Asian menu where I tried the shakshuka which was the best I have tasted so far. Food is really fresh and wholesome. Owner is very welcoming and hands on. Will certainly visit again soon to try their other offerings.
Absolutely beautiful place! Friendliest and most helpful staff. It is a great experience and the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. The tea is amazing and there is Gluten free food options. Definitely a must visit!
This is an amazing eatery. Not only is the food exquisite.. The proprietor Lisa has the most beautiful table side presence. My daughter and I find every excuse to taste her scrumptious vegetarian and vegan morsels which are perfectly paired with exotic teas. This establishment deserves my perfect 10 💯
Peaceful atmosphere, good for quick catchup meetings
So great to have rediscovered this awesome cafe! Last time we ate there was at their Cavendish branch long before lockdown. The food is delicious and the service is very friendly & efficient. We will definitely come back often.
Awesome place.
Lovely and very hospitable owner(s)
Just a great place to visit. Sampling the tea menu is fun. The food is delicious and great value for money. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere
I loved my first visit to Nigiro! An amazing concept with fine vegetarian food! Our charming host gave us a thorough explanation of each meal and which delicious tea might best accompany it. My plant-based breakfast was a delight ... each item on my plate had a unique and tasty flavour. We shared a raw cheesecake which was sublime! This won't be a one-time visit (so many teas and dishes to try).
There is also a deli section offering healthy options including tempeh, tamari, edamame beans, ready-made treats and so much more. (The cakes can be taken home too!)
A highlight was our host wishing me happy birthday by accompanying herself on the piano!
Went there this morning for the first time, and it was honestly incredible. We had some matcha and japanese cheese cake, which went excellently together. Also had a flowering oolong tea, which was beautiful to watch, and tasted lovely. The setting is also beautiful and cosy. I already can't wait to go back, although this time in a group, so that we can taste more teas (two pots was a bit much for two people in a short time, would have loved to sit for longer but we had another activity planned). Thank you so much
We visited O'ways for the first time yesterday. Wow, what a haven. There are so many vegan options on their menu. We had kimchi stir fried rice and aubergine curry. Both super delicious! Next time we're definitely trying the vegan coconut panacotta and raw cheesecake! Great atmosphere and friendly service.
They have a lot of teas and very knowledgeable about them which is really helpful.
There is a little kiosk kind of place inside where you can purchase some souvenirs.
They have the best cheesecake I have ever had.
A very interesting restaurant and tea house. Plenty of wonderfully different types of tea and items to purchase, as well as imaginative dishes to eat there or take out. Friendly, efficient staff
It's the best place the people are always so friendly and uts a really calm and relaxing place besides maybe some of the prices are a bit expensive but out of all 5 star
Unique, comfortable and interesting tea cafe experience, paired with a great selection of meals. They also have a Deli section with a great selection of sushi and other Asian ingredients.
Went for a tea tasting. Price included 5 tea blends of choice, Green Tea, Oolong, Black Tea, Rooibos and Honeybush. Lisa the host was very knowledgeable, conducted a pleasant and thoroughly enjoyable presentation. Vast array of blends totally mesmerised a coffee drinker like me. Place is vegan and Gluten Free friendly, so suited our palate. The cheese cake desert was simply delicious.
My waiter could be little bit more attentive. I think they might be understaffed. Authentic place. Good clean energy.
I hope it's better next time.
Vegan friendly. They have the best Japanese cheese cake!!!!
Amazing variety of teas at affordable prices. The staff is great too and the inside of the restaurant makes you feel all warm and toasty. I'll definitely be back!
Incredible tea selection (so few places do a proper pot of tea anymore, you get a great tea drinking experience at O'Ways) and the coffee is hugely popular too. Breakfast was delicious and the service was friendly. I like the low-key vibe.
Excellent coffees and teas (the freshly-brewed iced tea is superb!), and top-quality vegetarian dishes, made with LOVE and beautifully presented.
Owner, Lisa, is a very special lady, who oversees everything at O'Ways TeaCafé properly, and with personal care. Kudos to her for a wonderful and tranquil refuge amongst the noisy hustle and bustle of the Claremont CBD.
Very health centric coffee shop/restaurant. Also have a huge selection of exotic teas and you can buy their unique tea sets which is also great. P.S. fantastic eggs Benedict.
Huge selection of teas from around the world including some interesting Rooibos blends. The Japanese cheesecake was amazing. Highly recommend for teas and tea paraphernalia.
Such a gentle, respectful place - always a pleasure to visit. Appreciate the great vegan options on offer too.
The owner was super friendly and helpfull in conforting my boyfriend who had a heatstroke a day earlier. She even looked up the best things to eat and drink. And replaced his 'heavy' meal for a lighter one, free of charge. We could stay as long as we needed in order for my boyfriend to feel better. Ow and I olmost forget to mention that the risotto that I had was delish. Never had tofu quite like that. Perfect. And the thee was sublime. The explained how to make it at the table. Very friendly waiters. If we would ever visit Cape Town again, we would definitly vist O'Ways again
Lovely tea spot with all sorts of tea and even coffee accessories. Also a good specialty grocery section. I really enjoyed the Taiwanese Oolong tea with a snack from their menu.
Love this place. I've been here with my friends na few times and use the entertainer app here. Their food is really tasty and they have an almost infinite number of teas.
Wonderful space. Delicious food. Wide variety and well respected tea selection. This place deserves more recognition.
Lovely boutique restaurant with delicious tea and hot chocolate. Easily accessible from Cavendish. On street parking can be annoying as the road gets packed most hours.
Nice little, cosy place with loads of tea options. Unfortunately I did not sit down and eat so can't comment on that.
I like tea so much, and this place will be my new tea shop. I'm so glad I found it and it's in my area. You will be seeing a lot more of me.
The owner is so involved in the store and not to be clichéd but passionate about, well more than just tea. The whole experience is enjoyable.
Good Coffee - Good tea - Good meal, and very friendly and efficient staff
